Rotary switch is the very first such device. Inside such a device there is a special rotary mechanism that closes the contacts when the handle position is changed. Now you can find modern rotary light switches with a dimmer (dimmer). Mostly they are issued in retro style for stylistic interior decoration.

A smooth dimmer switch or rheostat is based on the principle of changing the brightness of the light, it can be contact and non-contact. A similar model is often installed in children's rooms or office rooms, but they are also used in cinemas, in production. It is a classic electronic resistor that connects to a power cable. It can be used to control any type of lamp.

Remote circuit breakers are ideal for installation in rooms with a large area. Such a device is controlled by a remote control, for example, Livolo. A smart switch consists of a receiving point and a control circuit. The receiver can be installed anywhere in the apartment and even sometimes outside it, its contact wires connected to the necessary lamp, the operation of which is controlled by switching the keys to remote control. The main advantage of this principle of operation is the ability to control several separate switches or even entire groups of devices for lighting housing at once.

Almost all types of light switches with cord used for wall sconces. They are convenient to use in bedrooms and children's rooms, they have an affordable price and a large assortment of design. Wherein wireless touch switches presence lights are the exact opposite of these devices. On the contrary, they are necessary to turn off the light at the moment when some room is empty. This appliance is often used in stores or large offices.

Timer switch - This is a light control that turns on only for a certain time. Such a system of operation allows to save electric energy. An adjustable timer is built directly into the lamp, but not all models have a setting function. Depending on the brand and type, the adjustment can be carried out from several minutes to several hours, and after the time has passed, the light itself will go out.

The sound switch differs from infrared in that it responds to air vibrations during sound waves, it turns off and on with a pop. If necessary, it can be made with adjustable brightness or add other functions.

Separately, you need to consider such models of switches as wireless or touch. They can be installed in any part of the house, on furniture and other surfaces. To control them, a fairly simple scheme is used, in which the touch sensor is built into the shield or a special panel. It transmits radio signals or wifi pulses to receivers built into the fixtures. This overhead device can be moved to any part of the home or office and control the lighting from one specific place or using the remote control.

How to connect a regulator

Connecting the light switch is easy to do with your own hands, if there is a power plan for the apartment and the project of the necessary connection. Depending on the type of device, the principle of operation and design, the installation principle may vary.

Let's consider how to connect a two-key Legrand light switch (the scheme is also suitable for a three-key):

1. The two-key switch is a two-key switch, so putting such a dimmer is not difficult. On the panel of any model, the manufacturer publishes contact designations and the principle of their location. Sometimes the colors of the wires are also indicated;
2. The common contact required to connect the power is always located at the bottom. Thus, you have two contacts that will be allocated to the fixtures and one that will connect to a common electric current network;
3. Any pulse and contact device must create a phase gap. This ensures safety during certain operations after turning off the lights;
4. In most cases, a two- and three-key device is installed using a junction box. In it, you need to connect the zero wires of both lamps to each other. The position of the common wire does not change and a power cable is connected to it;
5. The circuit breaker also has two phase wires, which are needed to close and open the circuit. In most cases, they differ in color from each other. The connection is as follows: one cable is connected to the network, and the other to the first;
6. The correct arrangement of wires will also allow you to connect groups of fixtures to such a switch, so often chandeliers with 5, 6 or more lamps are connected.

An earth wire will also need to be installed on any light switch, otherwise you will not be able to safely repair or even disassemble the device if necessary. If you want to install a model with a timer or other sensor control, you need to carefully read the manufacturer's instructions and study the contact diagram.

It must be remembered that it is possible to disassemble, repair and make a light switch only when turned off power supply of the apartment or house (replacing any electrical device requires a complete shutdown of the protective machine).
