Design Features
A semi-hermetic and hermetic receptacle is part of the connection, which also includes a plug, and is used to connect individual household appliances, switches, etc. Structurally, the electrical outlet consists of a block, a protective housing and working contacts. In addition, the device also has a housing, which is the base.
The block is the most important structural element. It is made from ceramics, thermoplastic or specially treated polycarbonate. For installation in residential premises, only models with ceramic pads were previously used, because they differ in excellent fire protection indicators, but at the same time they break from the slightest impact. Therefore, now only plastic bases are mainly used.
Thin plates made of brass, copper, bronze are used as working contacts. They are installed on the block using screw connections, a screw with a washer, a spring (the most modern option). Spring connections are the most convenient to use. In the case, a button is opened to the spring, opening the panel and contacts. When the button is pressed, the spring is compressed and access to the protective and working contacts is opened.
The contacts are also protected by special blinds for plug connection. When the plug enters the holes, they move away, providing access to conductive cables. There are models with various connectors and their types. Depending on the type, their longevity may vary. The simplest ones are of plate type, they can wear out even from daily connections - turning off devices. To extend their service life, the blinds are additionally reinforced with steel rings, transverse strips of brass or steel.
Kinds
Devices are classified by type of installation, number of inputs and type of connectors (four-wire telephone, cable, classic, antenna and others). By type of installation:
- Domestic;
- External
Internal are more convenient to use, because they are installed together with the contacts and the junction box in the wall. They are installed only on hidden wiring.
An external or patch outlet is used for open or external wiring. It is mounted on top of the wall, which greatly simplifies the installation process. But because of the external location, they are not always convenient at home.
By the number of poles, it can be unipolar (ANAM, Mosaic Legrand - Legrand), bipolar (Makel, IEK, Prima), a three-pole (Euro ABB) and a four-pole outlet, but they are found mainly in Europe and USA. In our area, bipolar is mainly used for installation. Of course, previously it was possible to find even a unipolar, but now they are very rare.
A separate view is the power and simple three-phase or 3-pole. It can be made with flat holes for connecting the plug (euro) or classic round ones - for example, for connecting an electric stove to the network.
Also, sockets are:
- With one input (single);
- With two branches connected in the same socket (double);
- Power three-phase or 3-pole.
Single-phase or single is the most popular among ordinary people. It is a housing with only one input for the plug, easy to install and use. Double or double is used if you need to connect several devices from one electric point. This helps save time on wire transfer and during system installation. A similar principle of operation is for a triple socket, only it has three leads in one housing for inclusion in the electrical network of the plugs.
In addition to these design features, there are modernized plug sockets for equalizing potentials, with protective covers (the Schuko splash-proof model is often used in the kitchen or in the bathroom), a sealed device, instrument and others.
