In November, when the harvest is collected, the summer resident, it would seem, you can think about rest. But empty beds, summer greenhouses and harvested vegetables require attention. In the calendar of the summer resident in November, there are still a lot of important things that can not be postponed on the eve of the winter.
Pre-winter planting of greens, onions and root crops
Until the cold came, but the active vegetation of plants has already been completed, pre-winter planting carrots and onions, beets, spinach, parsley, dill and other green crops. For autumn digging it is convenient to make dolomite flour. In this case, you do not need to break up the clods. With the onset of frost, most of the harmful insects and fungi found in them and close to the soil surface will die.
November: the focus of greenhouses and greenhouses
In November, the cares of the summer owner require not only beds, but also greenhouses that have remained since summer, film and stationary greenhouses.
The soil inside the greenhouses is freed from the tops, fallen fruit of tomatoes, cucumbers and other crops. Vegetable residues endure and destroy. The beds are dug up. The film and demountable structures are washed, dried and stored for storage.
Stationary greenhouses from the inside are washed with disinfectant solution, the wooden parts of the frame are treated with fungicides. The top layer of the soil should be removed by 5 cm and be noticed by a fresh substrate enriched with humus, with a rotten compost, a mixture of peat with fertilizers. When the greenhouses are ready for the new season, they can plant onions, as well as parsley, celery and other spicy herbs that have been in the open ground for fresh greenery.
From the beds to the vaults: we save the grown
Vegetables and root vegetables are prepared for harvest in the summer. They are strengthened, in every possible way protecting from the penetration of rodents. However, sometimes mice penetrate into the cellars not only through underground passages, but also through ventilation, in bags of vegetables. If there are traces of teeth on potato, carrots, beet, dung of rodents on the shelves, it is necessary to take immediate measures:
- identify and repair the moves;
- arrange traps;
- in places safe for humans, decompose poisoned baits;
- to pick up vegetables and remove those that are already damaged by pests.
By November, most of the harvest is already stored. The last in the cellar let down the potatoes of the summer planting, the cabbage heads are sent. Full bins are pleasing, but you should not leave them without attention. Regularly, starting from the second half of November, the vegetables are examined, sorted and, when discerning the spoiled, they are removed. If this is not done, the rot will quickly spread, depriving the summer resident of a significant part of the grown.
In cares about the next harvest
To prolong the process of ripening and protect from washing out, compost before the onset of pores of rain and frost cover with a film or other moisture-resistant materials.
Because of insemination by harmful fungi, potato, tomato, cucumber, squash and pumpkin leaves, cabbage stalks and a lot of other plant residues are not suitable for composting. It, like the remaining after pruning of garden trees and bushes of branches, it is better to burn. The resulting ash is either introduced into the ground, or stored until the spring, to use as a valuable potassium-phosphorus fertilizer in the next season.
It is important after the completion of the work in the garden to clean, rinse and dry the garden tools. Shovels, saws, axes and choppers and other tools harbor. For storage, garden equipment is removed.
