Historically, the rustic style has evolved from what people usually saw in rural houses. Due to the fact that each country had its own materials for construction and decoration, customs and traditions, this style is very different from place to place.
Varieties
Several types of this style are widespread:
- American country;
- Greek Mediterranean
- french provence.
But, nevertheless, when a person in Russia hears this phrase, then a picture is drawn in his mind from chopped walls, wooden furniture, a white Russian stove with cast iron and poker, the aroma of freshly baked of bread. In a word, everything that can be seen in the village hut. And now, when many get tired of the frantic pace of city life, they are increasingly paying attention to the creation of a corner in their apartment or house you can take a cup of tea or coffee, close your eyes and imagine that you are in a house in the middle of a field, and a river murmurs behind a hill and mumbles cow.
Fifty shades of wood in a rustic kitchen
The main distinguishing feature of the Russian village style is the abundance of wood. Everything can be done in the colors and texture of wood: walls, floor, ceiling, furniture. A huge number of texturing options sometimes allows you to achieve amazing combinations.
There are often blotches of other colors: white - Russian stove, blue - sky, green - grass. But this should not be abused.
DIY kitchen interior design (photo)
To equip the kitchen with your own hands, it is best to align the walls and beat them with a lining or other wood material (also see other wall design options). During the repair, this will create a bright and comfortable base for the room. If this operation is not suitable due to price or fire safety considerations, then you can glue them with wallpaper with a wood texture (considered here). If the dining room is in a chopped wooden house, then the walls can be left as they are, they look great and will be in harmony with the rest of the interior.
The best solution for the ceiling is plastering and painting it in white. Such an antique ceiling looks great and is easy to clean. It will look beautiful if the walls twenty to thirty centimeters to the ceiling are painted white.
For the floor, it is better to use parquet, laminate or floorboard. If desired, you can buy linoleum with a wood texture.
For lighting, it’s best to use either antique lamps or hidden lighting that can be hidden in the elements of decor or furniture.
Furnishing
An excellent material for the manufacture of furniture, like everything else, is natural wood. But wood-like materials will also look beautiful (see article We make a kitchen under a tree): laminated or coated with a polymer film.
A kitchen set should be ordered large; cabinets with glass doors that can be seen behind will look great in it. Many shelves will be useful, which will be useful in the future for storing spices and other small items, as well as for further decoration.
For tabletops, both natural and artificial stone, as well as other durable coatings, are suitable. Color - better close to the main tone of the headset or one texture with it.
Plumbing should also be selected antique: brass or bronze, which does not attract attention.
No matter what the structure, shape or size of your dining table will be, it is best to make it from natural wood: birch, Christmas tree, larch. If the kitchen is spacious and the table is large, then next to it you can place benches instead of chairs, this will give it additional surroundings. Tablecloths are best used in light colors with a simple pattern in green or blue.
Many apartments currently have such an element as a bar. It can be placed in the context of the interior, using a little imagination. For example, give it the look and color of a Russian stove. However, the bar, made in colors in harmony with the walls and the rest of the furniture, will not look superfluous.
In order for kitchen tools not to get out of the general composition, it is best to use built-in equipment. It is necessary to try to avoid acquiring devices of gray or unnatural, scarlet, purple tones, as they will attract attention and deprive the style of harmony.
Decoration, or how to equip a kitchen
Another feature of the rustic style in the apartment is a huge abundance of practical trifles, which are also part of the decor.
Carpets as an element of rural design
It is difficult to imagine a village house (see examples of kitchen design in a private house) without homespun rugs and rugs. They are decidedly everywhere: on benches and chairs, on the floor. All this is due to the fact that earlier it was almost the only way to bring paints into the house and protect yourself from getting splinters. Now such maximalism will cause only a smile, but a homespun rug in the aisle and on benches will add coziness.
Utensils in a wooden kitchen
In Russia, ceramic dishes have long been treated as a subject of decor, and sometimes luxury. No wonder such art murals as Gzhel, Khokhloma, Zhostovo painting are so famous. All of them reflect the desire to decorate your home, add bright colors and at the same time exclude the presence of useless things in the kitchen. No less interesting and beautiful motif will be decorative clay jars with lids or salt shakers for spices. You can hang trays on the walls, which will also add bright colors to the room.
Workpieces for repair
Now this can be of a purely decorative nature, but previously long strands of garlic, onions, and other products from the garden that were prepared for the winter, hung on the walls, had practical benefits.
Russian stove in an old village house
What a village house without it? However, placing an Russian stove in an apartment is too expensive and pointless. But no one bothers to paint part of the wall in white (see also We paint the walls. Color selection) and depict so beloved by many a couch. Another design option is decorating a battery or some other element of the room under a Russian stove.
