How to conduct gas to the bath from home: rules and a step-by-step guide to gasification

click fraud protection

Have you ever considered how much it costs to heat a bath with gas? According to the most conservative estimates, compared with firewood and electric heating, the savings are 40 percent. Cost reduction is especially noticeable if the bath is large. Most often, this method is used by the owners of gasified areas, since it is not difficult to bring gas into the bath from home, and the constant change of cylinders is a labor-intensive event.

The extension of the gas pipeline to the bathhouse must be carried out taking into account the requirements of the law. Already at the design stage, it is necessary to involve professionals, since a special permit is required for the launch. When issuing such permits, experts take into account the specifics of the project, the location of the bath on the site, the conditions for the safe placement of pipes, the origin of the equipment and much more.

To draw up an algorithm for a competent gasification of a bath, we got acquainted with legislative acts, advice from gas workers, user observations. The result was a detailed action plan that takes into account all the rules for installation and operation.

Advantages and disadvantages of bath gasification

Before deciding to conduct gas in the bath, the owners of suburban areas try to take into account all the features of this method. The cost of operation, environmental friendliness, complexity of maintenance, efficiency are taken into account.

Pros of using blue fuel

In addition to significant savings, the advantages of this method include the hygiene of the gas - there are no smells, soot, and soot during combustion. In addition, the gasified bath heats up almost twice as fast.

Firewood by the fireplace

Firewood is inferior to gas in many respects: it needs to be stored somewhere, to monitor timely delivery and condition. However, they are still the most popular material for the firebox. And even used in combined gas-wood stoves

A big plus is the automation of the process. For kindling, a minimum of labor is required on the part of the owner. Together with the low cost of gas, this advantage makes gasification of the bath particularly attractive.

Cons seen by owners and professionals

According to the owners, the main drawback is the difficulty in obtaining permission: at the slightest inaccuracies, the commission prohibits the use of gas to heat the bath.

Wood-fired sauna

Professional gas workers note a high level of danger in case of non-observance of installation rules, absence of safety devices and vigilance of the owners.

Other disadvantages include:

  • the need to pay for the work of installation specialists;
  • high cost of equipment;
  • restrictions on the choice of a sauna project.

Another subjective observation concerns the lack of smell. Many people appreciate the aroma that spreads through a heated room when wood is burned. Gas equipment excludes this possibility.

Legal requirements for project, equipment, installation

Basic requirements for laying gas pipes inside the bath, the design of the stoves and the parameters of the room are spelled out in SNiP 2.04.08-87.

Arrangement of an external gas pipeline and connection features are regulated SNiP 42-01-2002.

Terms of project approval by technical supervision

It is extremely rare that the owners of the baths manage to agree on gas wiring, as their buildings do not meet the requirements. It is more correct to first create a project, and then start construction. Moreover, the building should be located on a capital foundation.

Bath ceiling height

Old baths often have low ceilings. Already by this parameter, they are not suitable for gasification. A properly designed room has a floor-to-ceiling distance of more than 2 meters

The main criteria are the presence of an emergency exit, a transom for ventilation or an exhaust ventilation duct, a sufficient area. The volume of the room where the oven is located must be more than 8 cubic meters. And the passage next to it cannot be less than a meter wide.

Attention is also paid to the doors - each of them should open outward, have functional handles on both sides. The doors themselves can only be made of non-combustible materials. All this is taken into account when agreeing.

Equipment selection criteria

Not all types of stoves are suitable for installation in gasified baths. Only factory-made metal products are allowed, the design of which allows the removal of combustion products into the chimney. Stone and brick-lined stoves are prohibited. Important points are the presence of a fuse that blocks the fuel supply when the fire is extinguished and the tightness of the gas chamber.

It should be noted that leading Russian manufacturers such as "Ermak", "Termofor", "Teplodar" produce approved models with excellent automation and high-quality components. While the products of European factories do not always pass the test successfully.

Gas oven in store

When purchasing, check the certificates of quality and safety, check the product data sheet filled out by the manufacturer. It should contain marks about the successful passage of technical control

The oven should be serviced not in the steam room, but in the dressing room. Therefore, the design must include a remote fuel channel.

Particular attention is paid to the type of nozzles: when using the main gas supply, extended nozzles are required, to use a propane mixture from a cylinder, narrowed ones.

Rules for the installation of a gas pipeline, stove, chimney

Installation rules include requirements not only for laying a gas pipeline, but also to the installation of a fire alarm. This role can be played by highly sensitive carbon monoxide detectors.

The pipe outlet from the house should rise 2 meters above ground level and enter the dressing room at the same height. Installation under or inside the foundation is prohibited.

At the end of the pipe, a crane is installed, which, when the equipment is depressurized, will instantly provide a complete shutdown of the gas pipeline.

Carbon monoxide sensor

When choosing equipment for a bath, you should always pay attention to the permitted operating temperature. For example, many Chinese CO sensors are designed for temperatures up to 55 degrees.

Particular attention is paid to the placement of the ovens. Wooden walls next to them must be insulated with non-combustible materials. An acceptable option is sheathing with thermal insulation and steel sheet.

The fireproof distance from the insulated wall to the product body is 60 cm. All other objects, floors, wall shelves should be at least 110 cm from the walls of the stove.

The support base of the furnace, protruding beyond the boundaries of the product by 10 cm or more, must also be made of refractory material. Only steel pipes are allowed to connect the stove to the chimney.

Welded seams on a gas pipe

According to paragraph 5.1.4 of SNiP 42-01-2002, the joints of metal pipes must be one-piece, welded. Detachable connections are permissible at the points of connection of elements of gas equipment

The installation of the chimney itself is also regulated. In places of passage through the floors and walls of the bath, it is necessary to lay fire-prevention cuts.

Very often expanded clay is used for this purpose. Bulk material easily fills the space, has high refractory characteristics.

Paperwork and obtaining permission

We have already mentioned that before starting construction, it is worth checking the project and clarifying whether it is possible to conduct the gas into the bath like this, as intended by the owner. If everything is in order, you can start building. You do not need a permit to build a bathhouse. It is received only if the bath is registered as garden house.

Then they prepare documents for obtaining consent for gasification:

  • application for the provision of technical specifications;
  • passport and title documents of the owner of the site;
  • calculation of the maximum consumption in one hour;
  • site plan or diagram;

If the gas pipeline is private property, then the owner's consent must be attached. After the issuance of the technical specifications by the gas distribution company, adjustments must be made and an inspector of the gas service must be invited.

If the construction matches, he will issue a permit for pgas flow and equipment layout.

Technical conditions for gas connection

Since gas workers are much more willing to issue permits for gasification of residential buildings, many owners register a bathhouse in this very status. This makes it easier to obtain specifications and speeds up the process.

You can do the same with the old bath, already built on the site. It is possible that in order to bring it into a proper state, it will only be necessary to arrange additional window openings and an emergency exit.

True, practice shows that the percentage of obtaining permits in such cases is extremely low.

Gas flow procedure, practical advice

The preparatory stage is the purchase of pipes, consumables and gas equipment. To gasify the bath according to the rules, it is necessary to check with the project and the received technical conditions.

The documents contain a calculation of the length of pipes, an indication of their diameter, as well as the name and brand of permitted equipment. Experienced users are advised to purchase pipes and consumables with a margin of 30 percent.

Stage 1 - installation of an external gas pipeline

Since the arrangement of the external gas pipeline is recommended to be carried out by an overground method, reliable supports will be required to fix the pipes. They must raise the gas duct above the ground by at least two meters.

The following requirements are imposed on the supports:

  • the distance between the supports is determined by the project;
  • the strength of the structure should be calculated based on the own mass of the gas conduit and the weight of possible icing with a coefficient of 1.2;
  • the fixing part must correspond to the design dimensions of the pipe.

If the project specifies the installation of a gas pipeline with a slope, you can mount metal gaskets between the soles of the supports and embedded structures. The installation of such gaskets between the pipe and the support is prohibited.

Supports and welds

The rules for placing supports also apply to the distance between them and welds on gas pipes. This distance cannot be less than 5 cm

To protect against the effects of wet precipitation, the outer pipeline is painted over with bright yellow oil paints. This is done by employees of the gas company that took over the installation.

But after they leave, many summer residents repaint the pipes in other colors that match the main palette of the site. Doing this is prohibited.

Stage number 2 - laying pipes inside

The internal gas pipeline must also consist of metal pipes. In the places of passage through the walls, it is necessary to drill holes and install embedded iron sleeves in them. Piping through walls is only permitted through such sleeves.

When gasifying wooden buildings, this is extremely important, since any wood shrinks over time. And this is fraught with damage to the unprotected gas pipe.

Hole in the bar

It is forbidden to make holes for the gas pipeline between logs or beams, at their junction. They must be located inside solid wood

Fastening should be carried out using the products specified in the project. It is better to purchase fasteners in specialized stores, since in ordinary outlets, counterparts that do not meet the requirements are often offered.

To realize turning points, it is important to use induction pipe bender - a device that allows you to change the angle by 90 degrees. The manual method of bending with heating is not suitable in this case, as it can disrupt the structure of the metal.

At the points of connection of gas equipment, the end of the pipe is formed with a thread. Filters are mounted on this thread and shut-off valves are installed. During the final pressure test, a specialist must check the tightness of these joints and the integrity of the welds.

Fire extinguisher

Before performing welding work, make sure that you have a fire extinguisher, cover the wooden walls of the bathhouse and nearby buildings with asbestos or metal sheets

It is important to make sure that the gas pipes inside the bath do not interfere with the electrical wire. The minimum distance between them is 10 cm. If a water supply or sewerage system is installed in the bath, then it is necessary to maintain a distance between them and the gas pipeline branch of 2 cm.

Stage number 3 - installation of the chimney

We have already stopped at the rules for installing a gas oven. Therefore, the next step is to mark the organization of the chimney. Gas companies also have special requirements for it.

During installation, it is recommended to keep track of:

  • the absence of pipe joints in the ceilings - it is necessary to mount the chimney so that the joints are located above or below the ceiling;
  • the location of pipes relative to flammable elements of the building - the distance between them should not be less than 1 meter.

Above a flat roof, the chimney can protrude 1.2 meters or more. Above sloped roofs, the minimum elevation is 0.5 meters.

Conclusions and useful video on the topic

After collecting information on how to properly conduct gas into the bath, we found out that the law imposes strict requirements on the project, equipment parameters and the conditions for installing the gas pipeline. Independent design and connection is prohibited. Therefore, from the moment the idea was born, it is worth getting professional advice.

In the video, a representative of one of the gas companies tells how to obtain a permit for gasification of residential and non-residential premises, lists the main stages and necessary documents:
