How to protect the roof not only from heat loss, but also from excess heat

The main task of the roof of any building is to protect it from rain, snow and cold. At the same time, the roof itself is constantly under adverse weather conditions. Thermal insulation of the roof is needed not only to protect the building from heat loss. It protects it from overheating. Previously, they did not attach much importance to this and did not take measures for its thermal insulation. At the same time, such measures can significantly increase the service life of almost any type of roofing, and increase the comfort of living in the house.

The most common in individual housing, pitched roof type. Its thermal insulation is carried out by various methods and materials. Their choice depends on the climatic conditions in the region.

It is most convenient to use stove insulation. It has greater rigidity, because of which it is easy to stack, wedging between the rafter elements of the roof structure. The thermal insulation layer consists of several layers. For a roof made of sheet materials, such as corrugated board, metal tile or slate, the thermal insulation is laid in a certain sequence. Initially, the structure is covered with mineral insulation, then with a moisture-proof film, and from above they are covered with roofing material, fixing it to the crate.

For a roof made of dense materials such as ondulin, ruberoid or soft tiles, the crate is not suitable. Instead, they mount a solid base of OSB or plywood. A layer of thermal insulation is installed inside the roof. On the floor side of the building, it is covered with a vapor barrier membrane. The use of dense materials based on bitumen is not allowed, as this leads to a violation of the ventilation of the under-roof space and the formation of condensate in it.

Attic roofs differ from conventional pitched structures in the absence of an attic. Instead, a room with an interior decoration is equipped under the roof. This approach creates certain difficulties in arranging thermal insulation.

Due to the presence of people, the insulating material must be environmentally friendly. In addition, additional measures should be taken to avoid leaks, since in this case it will be very difficult to replace the insulation. To do this, you will have to dismantle the interior decoration of the attic. In addition, heat-insulating materials should have a low ability to shrink, as otherwise gaps will form, and the room will be supercooled.
