To make private houses as comfortable as possible for living, their owners often use in the winter electric heaters, which allows you to maintain a comfortable temperature in the premises, provided that thermal insulation of walls. If it is not there, heat quickly seeps out, and additional expenses will be required to pay for electricity, so that the rooms are filled with heat for a long time. How to avoid such expenses? It is worthwhile to insulate the facade with mineral wool technology and the features of its implementation later in this article.

Characteristics of mineral wool

In order to avoid difficulties in the installation of mineral wool with their own hands, experts recommend a responsible attitude to the study of the technical characteristics of the material. This will not only facilitate the work process, but also will reduce the time for the implementation of insulation at home.

In order to warm the facades of residential buildings, a special material is actively used today - mineral wool, which is intended for outdoor use. If we compare its operational parameters with other heaters for internal work, mineral wool shows higher strength, density and moisture resistance. Therefore, insulation work with its use allows you to make your apartment building warm, fill it with comfort and a cozy atmosphere.

The material is produced in the form of mats or plates of different sizes: 50 per 100 cm or 60 to 120 cm. When selecting a specific brand of mineral wool, you need to consider that a reliable material has a density above 80 kg per 1 cubic meter. Then the insulation of the facades with mineral wool will be most effective.

Advantages and disadvantages

Today in the domestic construction market there are many materials that can be used to insulate residential buildings from the outside. But mineral wool, which has many positive properties, stands out favorably against the background of other options.

The technology of warming the facade with mineral wool for plaster has several advantages, since the material itself demonstrates high performance parameters. He is characterized by such positive qualities as:

  • low thermal conductivity, so that the risk of heat leakage from the house is practically minimized. This has a positive effect on the cost of paying for electricity in the direction of their reduction;
  • excellent soundproof qualities. Mineral wool shows high elasticity, so it perfectly reflects sounds from the street;
  • good fire resistance, due to which the insulation is able to increase the fire safety of the entire structure;
  • excellent water resistance indicators, due to which, with the help of insulation works, it is possible to provide the facade with additional insulation from dampness;
  • high environmental friendliness and safety for human health and domestic animals, so mineral wool can be used even for homes where allergies live;
  • provides optimal air exchange, which creates a favorable climate for people to live inside the house;
  • mineral wool does not attract small rodents at all, which can significantly extend the service life of the facade and makes it warmer.

Regarding the shortcomings, we note that mineral wool is rather difficult to use, since defects and errors in the technology lead to a low heat-saving ability of the facade.

Technology of facade insulation with mineral wool

Thermal insulation of a private house from the outside is considered the most successful way to insulate the building, after all, with this technology, the insulating material “does not eat up” the precious centimeters of the area of the rooms. Insulation of the facade with mineral wool can be done with your own hands, but first you need to acquire relevant materials and tools. You can not do without a basement length equal to the length of the perimeter of the structure, hydro and construction level, special adhesive composition, dowels with screws, construction trowel and knife, soil, abrasive grater, serrated and level trowel, square, hacksaw, brushes for the soil itself insulation.

Preparatory process

Facade insulation with mineral wool technology can be implemented without the help of experienced builders. In order to achieve the maximum level of thermal insulation of the facade, the insulating material must be mounted on a base cleaned from contamination and previous finish. If any protruding parts are present on the surface, it is best to remove them. It is also recommended to eliminate elements made of metal, which over the years can suffer from corrosion. If it is not possible to remove metal structures, it is better to abandon the use of acrylic decorative stucco. The fact is that mineral wool becomes an obstacle to the penetration of air masses to metal structures, which causes their corrosion and damage to the facade as a whole over time.

Removing old paint
Paint residues or other coatings must be removed beforehand.

The base should acquire maximum evenness and smoothness, which will guarantee high results of insulation work. Remove all dirt, dust, oil coatings, old trim. If the base is covered with potholes, they should be putty. And if there are many protrusions on it, they will need to be carefully cut down with an hatchet.

Priming walls and marking the work surface

To increase the adhesion of the materials used with the base, when the facade is insulated with mineral wool, it is worth using the technology of priming the walls. The base with a roller or a wide brush is covered with a special composition - soil. It increases the adhesion of materials with which the decoration and insulation of the facade of the house is performed. When choosing such a tool, be sure to consider the nature of the building material from which the walls of the building were erected. One composition is suitable for aerated concrete walls, a completely different option for brick walls.

The surface must be primed.

A mistake at this stage can reduce your work to zero, without providing the external walls of the house with the necessary adhesion, in the end it will affect the durability of the facade, the level of its heat-saving qualities and resistance to the effects of negative environmental factors Wednesday.

Insulating mineral wool with your own hands should not be carried out without first marking the work surface. For these purposes, you will need a building level with which the walls are checked for smoothness and the presence of deviations from the vertical. You also need a measuring tape and a simple pencil, which marks the location of the fixation of mineral wool slabs on the walls.

For marking you will need a pencil and a level

Base profile installation

When you are convinced that the base has no significant defects and is ready for insulation work, you can proceed to the installation of the basement profile. And how to do all the work without any problems, we will describe further.

This material is relevant in view of the fact that it is capable of:

  • provide mineral wool with reliable protection against mechanical influences;
  • securely fix the insulation boards on the external wall of the house;
  • Protect the mineral wool from excessive moisture in the event of heavy rainfall.

To fix the profile on the surface of the facade, in the wall of the house, you need to organize mounting holes for expansion dowels made of plastic. Next, the profile sections must be installed and secured with screws screwed into the dowels.

Bonding and mechanical fixing of mineral wool

To insulate the walls of the house from the outside with basalt wool for plaster, you need to choose a suitable adhesive composition. The tool should demonstrate the following qualities:

  • high resistance to ultraviolet rays, low and high air temperatures, precipitation (rain, hail, snow), strong gusts of wind;
  • increased degree of vapor impermeability;
  • excellent adhesion.

Before applying glue on the surface of the base, it must be properly prepared.

To do this, the composition is diluted with water, strictly following the instructions, and then thoroughly stirred until the mixture becomes homogeneous. Next, the solution is carefully applied with a trowel to the surface of each slab of mineral wool. Do not apply too thick a layer of glue, otherwise the facade will not work out neat. It is better to do this: apply a few drops to the center of the plate, and leave a 50 mm layer of adhesive on its ends. Then, when pressing on the material, the glue will be evenly distributed over its surface.

Plates gently adhere to the wall surface

Lubricated boards are fixed on the wall in horizontal rows, starting from the corner of the house. Since the plates are malleable, they can be moved slightly during operation for a more tight fit. Stitch the material so that it does not form too long joints and gaps. After gluing, the mineral wool is additionally fixed by means of special dowels. It is optimal to use 5 fasteners on one plate: in the center and along the edges. With the formation of recesses in places of fixing plates with dowels, they are puttied.

Reinforcement and water protection

To give the facade additional strength and durability, it is worth making its reinforcement. First, the surfaces are plastered, and then a mesh of plastic or metal is pressed into the still-dry mixture with the smooth side of the grater. Pieces of mesh should be applied to the lap base. Special attention is paid to the corners of the house, on which the perforated corners are installed, supplemented by a reinforcing mesh. Also, pieces of mesh are additionally attached to the slopes of windows and doors. After reinforcing, the surface must be treated with an antifungal composition to ensure its waterproof properties.

All stages of finishing should be carried out at a certain air humidity (not more than 85%), otherwise the material may be deformed during installation on the wall. Also, do not carry out installation work if the air temperature is more than 30 °. If you do not follow the technology, during heating in the summer days, mineral wool will expand, and in winter, shrink. All this, which will lead to the removal of the insulation and the appearance of cracks on the facade.

Finish coat

With the help of decorative plaster, you can give the facade of the house a special luxury, attractiveness. Apply it to the base in three ways.

Application Method Specificity
Trimming It is carried out using a sponge made of rubber or a natural material dipped in soapy water. The facade acquires a texture similar to the surface of natural stone
Bouffant The plaster mix is “combed” with a metal brush with wire fibers. After the facade dries, sloppy-looking particles are removed with a rag
Stamping The simplest version, which involves the use of a roller covered with a mesh with a print

Work safety measures

Experts when working with mineral wool recommend that you adhere to the following security measures:

  • you should take the material into your hands, having previously put on protective gloves, since mineral wool can leave a wound on the skin;
  • to fix the plates on the surface, it is necessary to work exclusively in safety glasses so that small particles of insulation do not get into the eyes of a person;
  • when cutting material, as well as subsequent work with it, it is better to work in a protective mask, which will not allow small particles of plates to penetrate through the mouth or nasal openings into the lungs of a person.

Such measures can avoid further problems with the health of the master.
