Sometimes an unpleasant odor arises from a kitchen sink. And sometimes it’s difficult to understand the reason for its appearance. Often people in this situation begin to clean the pipes with chemicals from the store, believing that there are stuck leftovers that were washed away from the dishes. However, sometimes this is not the case at all, but the plumbing installation errors.
Oversight siphon installation
This is possible with an illiterate installation of a flask siphon. In this case, the pipe does not reach the liquid level in the flask. And an unpleasant odor then occurs in any case. The fact is that in the siphon there will be a section (pipe), which is directly connected to the sewer, but there is no water in its way. This leads to odor.
If the siphon was installed correctly, then the water would isolate the smell. If the fact is that the pipe is too high in the flask siphon, you just need to lower it. It is important that the fluid in the hydraulic lock covers the pipe by 2-4 cm. Then definitely there will be no unpleasant smell from the sink, at least for this reason.
Also, a common error leads to the occurrence of a problem when installing a corrugated siphon, when it is not pulled in the correct position with the help of special clamps. Such clamps, which ideally should be included, should tighten the siphon so that it forms a water lock, which will not let the smell into the kitchen.

If the clamps are used incorrectly or are not used at all, then there is no water seal as such. And this means that there is a section connecting the sink with the sewer, through which only sometimes water passes. In addition, water, most likely, will not occupy the entire volume of the corrugation, and therefore, there will still be a place for the penetration of odor. The solution is simple - fasten the siphon with a clamp so that a water lock appears, and water would stand in the way of the smell.
Lack of tightness
Firstly, you need to immediately get the siphon, which has a reliable design. Particular attention should be paid to the connection of parts. Secondly, it is important to ensure the tightness of the area where the pipe or corrugation of the siphon goes into the sewer. If this area is sealed, then the smell is likely to disappear.

Inaccurate installation damage
It is important to carefully approach the installation of a sink, faucet and siphon, because plumbing only seems to be so durable, no matter how high-quality it is. If you install carelessly, you may encounter such problems:
- corrugation damage;
- damage to the flask or pipe;
- and even chips on the sewer pipe.
The latter is possible if the pipe is relatively old. However, with caution in installation, there will be no such problems if the materials of all these products are of high quality.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that installation errors can lead not only to an unpleasant odor, but also to leaks. That is why, if you are not confident in your own skills, it is better to contact a specialist. It is also worth remembering that too cheap plumbing equipment can be substandard, and it is better to choose products from trusted brands.
