Are there any features of eggplant growing? How to plant aubergines on seedlings? Is it possible to grow them outdoors in a non-seeded way? Questions from truck farmers about how to plant, care for eggplants is always a lot, especially for beginners. Agrotechnics of eggplant cultivation is not complicated, but it has some peculiarities. They should be remembered if you are going to grow this "blue" vegetable, saturated with taste, vitamins, microelements. "Blue" eggplant, by the way, is called in many countries, although the color of its peel is traditionally violet.

Now there are varieties not only violet, but also lilac, variegated, striped, even white.

The shape of the eggplant is also changing - it depends on the variety. Fruits are cylindrical, elongated, round, ellipsoidal, drop-shaped.

In the conventional representation of aubergine - southern vegetable. Of course, it grows best, fructifies in the southern regions. But today there are so many zoned varieties that it's time to stop talking about the eggplant as a heat-loving plant. Now it is a normal, habitual "resident" of the beds of the middle belt, even the northern regions. Only it is grown in the south and north in different ways.

Of course, first of all, the eggplant differs thermophilic, moisture-loving. No "blue" from the sun will not refuse. It is for this reason that it is only possible to sow the eggplants immediately in the soil with seeds of the southern regions, and even then some procedures will have to be done with the seeds. And in the climate of the middle belt or where it's colder, this culture will have to be planted with seedlings.

By the way! Another reason for the preferred seedling method of growing aubergines is a prolonged period of vegetation compared to all other crops. From planting to full ripening eggplant can take up to 120 days (depends on the variety).

How to Plant Eggplant

Soil for planting seeds, if you buy a store, should be designed for solanaceous. It is not difficult to cook it yourself. the most important thing is to keep the proportions so that the ground is airy, light, and has a supply of nutrients. It is preferable to plant the soil with a weak solution of potassium permanganate before planting.

Another tip! Whichever primer you use, add 3 tablespoons of ashes, 1 spoon of dolomite flour, 2 spoons of complex fertilizer to 6 liters (liters, not kilograms!) Of soil.

Seeds are pre-disinfected. This can be done with solutions of potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide, treated with growth regulators such as Epin, HB-101, Heteroauxin, then laid down for germination. Why decontamination - I hope you understand. Germination is also a necessary stage, which should not be missed for the same reason for a long growing period of culture. Seeds with sprouted white sprouts are planted in prepared soil to a depth of -2 cm.

Advice! Eggplants should be planted better in cups or pots with a diameter of at least 6 cm, 2-3 pieces each, with a distance between them of two centimeters.

How not to plant aubergines on seedlings

I will share the negative experience of planting aubergines. I bought once (we have such stores or departments called "all for 39") cassette for growing seedlings for 12 cells. Peat pills were already placed in the cassette cells. True, the shell on these tablets was not. What attracted me? Naturally, the low price and small volume of the cassette. In addition, we only love eggplants in our family, so I decided that just me 12 bunches of this vegetable will suffice.

.
..

Immediately alerted that after getting wet, the tablet turned into some very homogenous mushy soil mass. My first mistake! It was necessary to replace the soil! But... it was bothering to be lazy - still poured a seed of aubergines there.

Seeds did not germinate - these seeds last year had 100% germination. Error? Yes! Another one! She waited two weeks - usually the seeds of eggplants under good conditions give shoots in 5-10 days - but this period passed, and there were no sprouts. Just in case, I decided to grow a new crop of seeds. Put them in addition to another cassette with the soil, which she prepared herself.

Then worries on planting pepper, tomatoes on the seedlings. But about the new tape did not forget - watered! Hope dies last! Imagine, shoots in two cells proklyulis in 25 (!) Days. You see them in the photo above. And the remaining cells literally "moss grown."

On the second photo of eggplant seedlings, planted two weeks after the first. Both photos did in one day. The difference is palpable! That's how much good soil means!

No need to plant eggplant or any other vegetables, flowers on seedlings in such incomprehensible origin tablets, which in fact are not peat.

Care of eggplant seedlings

Eggplant seedlings do not like transplanting, so the best option is to sow the seeds in peat pots to get around without piquing. If, however, because of saving space on the windowsill, your choice of seeding requires the picking of plants, then it must be carried out as safely as possible.

.
..

Once you have sown the seeds, the pots are covered with a film, soak them for six days at a temperature of + 23-25 ° C. During this time, provided that you have germinated the seeds, shoots should appear. Remove the film. It is desirable to lower the temperature of the contents to + 19 ° C. This stimulates the growth of the root system, which is rather weak in eggplants.

So, your eggplants are up! The first days to water shoots are not recommended, it is enough to spray them with warm water. Then, every 4-5 days, water the seedlings with standing water at a temperature of + 25-30 ° C. As soon as the first 2-3 real leaves appear, transplant the plant carefully into a large bowl.

Further care - this is abundant watering, weeding, loosening the soil.

Eggplant seedlings are not needed. On the contrary, faster growth of aubergines is facilitated by a short light day before flowering, no more than 10 hours. You can get a crop of vegetables two weeks earlier, if at a longer than 10 hours, the light day will cover seedlings from six in the evening to eight in the morning with plywood or cardboard boxes.

Problems with eggplant seedlings

In general, the eggplant is not the most problematic vegetable. But during the cultivation of seedlings with her, there can be various troubles.

For example, seedlings suddenly cease to grow. Gently pull out one seedling along with a clod of earth, examine the roots. If the roots are brown, then the seedling is likely to have little space, and it requires transplantation into a larger container.

It may be that the seedlings begin to fade. There are several reasons. The first - strangely enough, excess moisture - roots choke without access to oxygen. The second, too great a temperature difference between the soil, the surrounding air. This can happen if the containers with seedlings are on a cold window sill. The first cause is eliminated by limiting watering, loosening the soil. The second is by changing the location of the seedlings or by covering it from the streams of cold air.

.
.

If the bottom leaves of the seedlings become yellow or turn pale, the reason is a lack of nutrients.Urgently podkormim seedlings complex mineral fertilizer.

Well, if you notice incomprehensible spots on the leaves, the reason is pests, people call them mosquitoes or spider mite. Most likely on your plants, aphids or fungal mosquitoes of sarcids have started. In this case, sprinkle the leaves of plants on both sides with a solution of Phytosporin. The soil can be shed by means of Aktar from pests. Against the sciaride, spraying with dichlorvos will help. From midges it is enough to sprinkle soil in a glass or a pot with ground hot pepper.
