The main way is to make a mini-drill with your own hands from a motor. For this you will need:

  1. Mini motor - it is taken from old tools, such as a hair dryer. They are capable of speeds up to 1800 rpm, which is quite enough to work even with wood. You can also use a mixer or blender. Engines from a toy mechanism or from an old tape recorder will also work, although such devices develop less power.
  2. Do-it-yourself mini-chuck for a drill is taken from another drill or screwdriver. If there are no spare parts, you can take a collet. It is also allowed to use a homemade sleeve made on the basis of a tube that is clamped with bolts.

  3. The source of energy can be either a regular socket or batteries. In the first case, you will need to install a cord, in the second - put a converter or several batteries.
  4. The case is a plastic part, for example, a fragment of a water pipe, or a bottle of deodorant, an old lantern. The presence of a housing is of particular importance if the machine is powered by 220 V (insulation required).
  5. Connecting wires - you can take ordinary models with a small cross section. To install them, you need to prepare a soldering iron or connectors.
  6. Nozzles, including drills - they are installed in the collet, so they are selected based on its diameter.

How to make an electrical model

A homemade mini-drill is done in just 2 hours. It is not difficult to assemble it, but you should act carefully, evenly combining the parts and avoiding moisture and condensation. The main steps of the process are:

  1. Separate the electric motor from a household appliance, for example, from a hair dryer and solder 2 conductors to its contacts (in this case, they may remain from the previous mechanism). Wires, just in case, are marked in different colors in order to correctly take into account the polarity.1
  2. The mini PCB drill must have a start button. It is soldered into the start circuit. You can skip this step, but if you have a button, it will be more comfortable to work.2
  3. Next, the drill must be fixed in the sleeve or collet. It is fixed so tightly that it is impossible to turn by hand.3
  4. The assembled cartridge is placed on the motor shaft to the maximum depth. Moreover, you need to make sure that the housing with the engine and the cartridge do not touch each other during rotation. Otherwise, the motor may wear out quickly.4
  5. Next, you need to figure out how to make a mini-drill so that all the details sit firmly. The chuck is bolted to the shaft. The screed is made in turn, turning each bolt by the same number of turns. If some bolts are stuck, you need to tighten the others so that the compression is evenly distributed.5
  6. Now it remains to connect the device to a power source - it can be a network or batteries. A mini-drill from a motor is launched for trial work and they check how well the engine functions, how the constituent elements are fixed.6

Assembling a mechanical drill

Now it’s clear how to make a mini-drill from a motor. But in fact, this is not the only option for a home appliance. You can also make a mechanical tool without an engine. The basis is a mechanism equipped with a gear. The reel is best suited for a spinning type fishing rod.

If it is not there, you can use an old screwdriver, use a collet or a sleeve. As in the previous case, when choosing, it is necessary to focus on the diameter of the shaft.

The assembly instructions are as follows:

  1. Remove the screw on the shaft.7
  2. Take off the spool.8
  3. Remove the nut and remove the cassette.9
  4. Make sure that the chuck depth and shaft length match and fix them together.10
  5. To fix the chuck to the shaft, put the bolts for the sleeve or collet.11
  6. Next, you need to check the work and, if necessary, adjust the handle. For example, if it is large and catches the object when drilling, you need to make it shorter.
