Airbrushing is an interesting area of art, the essence of which is the non-contact application of paint. In fact, the composition is simply sprayed over the surface using an airbrush - a device that supplies paint under pressure. Learning to work with them is not difficult, but before buying, you need to study several parameters. The most important are described in detail in the article.

The essence of technology
If we literally talk about what airbrushing is, we can say that this is “air painting”. This is the name of the technique of drawing an image in which the artist does not touch it. Unlike the classic drawing, the paint is applied in a non-contact way, using a special device - an airbrush.
As early as the beginning of the 20th century, this approach to drawing was perceived as “frivolous”. But today airbrushing has become quite a popular art form. It is mainly used to create beautiful, memorable images on the surface of cars. Along with them, you can paint furniture, the facade of the house, a laptop, a bicycle, dishes, souvenirs and even a mobile phone.
Paint application technology may be different, for example:
- The use of ready-made stencils.
- The use of glitters (sparkles) to emphasize individual lines.
- Creation of a three-dimensional image in 3D style.
- Creation of a luminous image due to luminescent additives.
How to choose a quality airbrush
We can say about the airbrush that this is a device that sprays any paint with a very thin jet. Unlike a spray gun, it allows you to create a very beautiful and almost perfectly accurate image of an object. Learning how to work with the tool is not difficult, but it is important to understand how to choose an airbrush.
To do this, several parameters should be taken into account, one of them is the diameter of the nozzle:
- up to 0.18 mm - allows you to get very thin lines, even the smallest details of the picture; designed to work only with fine paints, since other compounds are clogged in the hole;
- 0.2-0.3 mm - the optimal diameter, suitable for drawing most elements; you can work on both small and large surfaces;
- 0.4-0.6 mm - such nozzles are suitable only for large areas, they are used, for example, for wall painting.
The type of installation of the nozzle on the device itself also matters, it can be of 2 types:
- Threaded - the nozzles are simply screwed onto the body, like nuts. You need to work very carefully, since even small distortions can lead to a defect.
- cone - nozzles are inserted into the seats. Stronger nozzles, therefore durable. In addition, installation and dismantling is much easier than in the case of threaded ones.
There is also such a criterion as the option of supplying the coloring composition:
- Top feed - the container is placed higher, so the paint flows down under the action of gravity, after which it is sprayed onto the surface.
- bottom feed - the container is at the bottom, so the supply is due to forced pressure (the tool is equipped with a special compressor).
- Lateral These models are rare. They are mainly used to work with horizontal planes, they are convenient for painting the ceiling surface.
- hybrid - combines the upper and lower type.
According to the control method, devices are divided into 2 classes:
- single action - you can adjust only 1 parameter, that is, either the strength of the air flow or the volume of the coloring composition.
- Double - allows you to control 2 parameters at once.
Airbrushes are also selected taking into account additional criteria. It is necessary to take into account how resistant the material of the tool is to chemical influences, is there an option that allows you to limit paint consumption. For professional purposes, it is worth purchasing branded models, for example, "Nasedal" or "JAS".
