When the washing machine hums when draining water, the cause is either clogged or parts fail. Before repair, diagnostics are carried out, for which each node is sequentially checked. How to do it yourself, using improvised tools, is described in this material.

Main reasons
If the washing machine hums when draining, the problems are most often associated with clogging of the water discharge (drain) system. In practice, users encounter the following problems:
- clogged drain pump;
- its breakdown (usually a complete replacement is required);
- blockage of the drain hose, pipe;
- clogged drain filter.
Since in most cases the washing machine buzzes when the water is drained, the cause must also be sought in the water drainage system. It consists of several elements, each of which needs a separate check. How to do this is described in the next section.
Filter check
To explain why the washing machine buzzes when draining water, you can clog the filter. Usually it works properly, but over time it becomes clogged with villi and other layers. To check and clean, proceed as follows:
- If the machine hums when draining water, you first need to find the location of the filter. Most often, it is located behind the front of the case from the bottom right corner. It can also be found behind a small door that is easy enough to open.
- When the washing machine makes noise when draining, it is necessary to evaluate the condition of the filter. If there is no door, you should remove the front panel by prying it with a flat screwdriver (insert it into the slot and gently pull it towards you).
- Next, put a rag to collect the spilled water. Unscrew the filter cover, moving in a counterclockwise direction.
- Since the LG washing machine hums when draining, you need to thoroughly rinse the filter. To do this, a jet from the tap is directed at it, you can also use a detergent.
- It also happens that the machine buzzes when draining very strongly. Then you need to inspect the hole - foreign things and debris can get stuck in it.
- After the filter is completely cleaned, put it back, tighten the cover and install the panel. Then they carry out a test wash, for example, in a fast mode, and make sure that there are no extraneous sounds.
Checking the pump and drain hose
If everything is in order with the filter, you should look for another reason why the washing machine makes noise when draining water. Most likely, it is connected with a drain hose and a pump, that is, a pump that pumps out waste water.
Most often, it is located at the bottom, and is not even closed with a lid. But in some models, for example, Siemens, Bosch and AEG, you can find the part from the front. And in the Electrolux and Zanussi washing machines, on the contrary, it is located at the back.
If the drain pump in the washing machine is buzzing, you should thoroughly clean it. To do this, they act like this:
- They take a flat screwdriver and, if necessary, open the panel of the machine (or the door that some models have).
- Unscrew the screw, with which the filter is fixed to the housing.
- Next, the machine is gently tilted away from you and a pre-prepared basin is pushed up to drain the liquid. Carefully unscrew the cap, moving in a counterclockwise direction.
- When a crackling sound is heard in the washing machine when draining the water, press it upwards, and then carefully remove it through the bottom. Disconnect the wires, remove the clamps and remove the nozzles.
- Then the pump is washed under running water, if necessary, a detergent is used. After it becomes clean, install all the parts back.
To eliminate the reason why the washing machine growls when draining water, you should also clean the pipes and the drain hose itself. They can either get clogged with debris or break. The instruction is this:
- After the previous steps have been completed (the pump is accessible), the clamp that secures it to the drain hose should be loosened.
- Disconnect the other end of the hose from the sewer.
- Thoroughly clean using a Kevlar cable with a brush (diameter within 10 mm).
- It is inserted inside the hose and moved back and forth several times.
- Then the hose is put in place and they look at whether the LG washing machine makes noise when draining the water or not.
Foreign objects in the pump
Another reason why the washing machine buzzes when draining is due to the appearance of foreign objects in the pump, more precisely, inside the snail itself. Because of them, the impeller stroke is blocked, the villi begin to wrap around the pump filter. Therefore, the washing machine is very buzzing when draining.
It is quite clear that the repair in this case comes down to the inspection and removal of all extraneous things. It may also be necessary to replace the impeller or the entire pump. But it is worth bearing in mind that the breakdown has different causes. And if the washing machine makes noise when draining the water, then the cuff is probably damaged - the rubber band between the door and the drum.
If there is a gap, metal locks, wooden toothpicks and much more fall into it. As a result, the machine makes noise when draining water, so not only the removal of things is required, but also the replacement of the cuff.
Pump replacement
In some cases, the drain pump may also need to be replaced. Over time, the supply sleeve or bearing assembly wears out, which is why the washing machine buzzes when the water is drained. Since repair is not possible in this case, the broken part can only be replaced with a new one. The step by step instructions are:
- De-energize the device, find the pump under the drum and unscrew the screws.
- Dismantle the wiring and tubes, as well as the terminals. At this stage, you need to take a photo in order to subsequently correctly connect all the elements.
- Install a new part and check how the machine works. If the installation is done correctly, the drain pump does not make noise in the washing machine.
As you can see from this review, it is quite possible to determine and eliminate the cause of noise during the drain of the liquid. And for this you do not need to use special equipment - it is enough to have improvised tools. However, if the exact cause cannot be determined, you should contact the wizard.
