How the device works

Such a device can be purchased or assembled independently. This is a fairly simple design, which consists of vertical racks. They are made of several fragments, which are connected by screws. The lower element rests against the table, performs the function of a support.

With the help of screws, it is attached to the surface, for example, a workbench. The carrier platform is equipped with a cylindrical rod. This is the stand, which provides a perpendicular position with respect to the table. The device for vertical drilling with a drill has a tooling in the upper part, with the help of which the movable bracket is fixed.

It has clamping flanges with which the drill is attached to the surface. Also, the design is equipped with a drive handle. With its help, the bracket is moved up or down. Vise and devices for limiting the depth of drilling can be available as additional accessories.

Device specifications

The vertical guide for the drill is a fairly simple device, which is characterized by 2 parameters:

  • working length - the maximum distance that the bracket moves;
  • flange diameter.
2

Of particular importance is the diameter, since the length of the drill is associated with it. In standard cases, it ranges from 45 to 65 mm. But you can also use adapters. With their help, the flange is expanded, so that a drill with a neck diameter of both standard and large sizes can be used.

How to do it yourself

The device is produced by different manufacturers, but you can also make it yourself. The guide for drilling with a drill is made of wooden blanks or 10 mm metal sheets. The build sequence is:

  1. Fix the support on the stand of the bed.
  2. Attach the stand to the base using screws.
  3. Install guides on it (these can be devices for furniture).
  4. On the moving parts of the guides, install a carriage on which to place a mount for fixing the tool.

The mechanism for moving the device for vertical drilling is assembled from a handle, as well as a spring that returns the carriage together with the tool to its original position.

A device for perpendicular drilling may well come in handy at work both for professional tasks and in everyday life. However, it should not be considered as a "panacea". In fact, during drilling, the drill still needs to be held vertically with your hands. But thanks to the guide, vibrations to the side will be minimized.
