Drip system: the principle of operation

Many housewives, who have found the time of manual manipulations to destroy ice in the belly of a Soviet refrigerator, will not get used to the relative independence of the new models. How is the drip defrosting, where does the ice from the walls of the refrigerating chamber go and why should it not be thawed every 2-3 months? Let's try to figure out how the system of drip defrost saves our time.

The rear wall of the refrigerator is equipped with an evaporator. It is there that the compressor is injected with a coolant. It cools the rear wall of the chamber, which becomes colder than the other walls and turns into a trap for moisture. The result: the condensate settles on the cold surface and gradually turns into ice crystals.

A special automatic defrosting system monitors the amount of ice collected at a particular place in the refrigerating chamber. And when the layer becomes as thick as possible, the system turns off the compressor.

In the Soviet units it was done by the hostess herself - she just pulled the plug from the socket.

So, the work of the refrigerator temporarily stops, the wall of the refrigerating chamber heats up. The defrost itself begins: the ice gradually melts and drips outward through a special hole located at the bottom of the chamber. Further on the discharge hose, water enters the drain tank located on the outside of the back wall of the unit. It can be a tray, a tray, where the melted ice evaporates safely.

If the pallet is full, you need to pour water out of it, put it back. That's all - the refrigerator is thawed without the direct participation of a reasonable person!

Some housewives are frightened by the sounds of the dripping fluid and falling drops coming from the refrigerating chamber. Their presence does not speak at all about the breakdown of the refrigerator, but, on the contrary, about its excellent state of health. So, the automatic system works correctly, the drip defrost is on schedule.

Advantages and disadvantages

.

The drip defrost system differs in the simplicity of the design, because the principle of its operation is based on the usual physical phenomenon - condensation. If the drip defrosting of the refrigerating chamber is terminated (the refrigerator broke), the owners do not need to spend money on expensive parts. Therefore, such models are considered budgetary. In addition, there is less noise from the refrigerator during operation and there is less noise, because there are no additional fans, such as the "No Frost" automatic system.

But in this world there is nothing ideal. And the drip defrosting system, alas, has its drawbacks.

The biggest disadvantage is that you have to defrost the freezer yourself. Sometimes a drainage hole, a discharge hose, is clogged: along with droplets of thawed water, crumbs, particles of food film, food residues, dust can get there. To clean the drainage hole, the hose can also be independently, using a syringe, soft wire. And even better to carefully read the appropriate instructions and do, as it says.

Some units even have an alarm system. When the temperature in the chamber (freezing, refrigerating) rises above the norm, the alarm is activated. What to do? Do not panic! First, check if the doors of the freezer, refrigerator compartment are tightly closed. Is this normal? It's time to start defreezing the freezer!

..

If the device is two-compressor, disconnect only the freezer. Less fortunate owners of a single-compressor refrigerator will need to de-energize the entire unit. But there will be an occasion to revise the contents of the shelves of the refrigerating chamber, to conduct its disinfection. Every six months.

So, the unit is turned off, the ice begins to gradually melt. During defrosting, find a drainage hole on the front of the freezer, attach a special spoon to the set. It should be followed by meltwater. Do not forget to substitute the container! To melt the ice faster, open the freezer door. Place cloths on the floor near the refrigerator, old newspapers in case of a local flood. Before switching on, wipe dry the walls of the freezer with a clean cloth.
