Kitchen design 16 sq. M. meters is almost unlimited in the planning decisions, nor in the choice of color scale, nor in technical equipment. In this area you can use the following additional features:

  • Installation of a bar rack;
  • Arrangement of a spacious dining area for 4-6 people;
  • Construction of a headset with a sufficient number of storage areas, a large work area, as well as a non-standard form, for example, U-shaped;
  • Installation of a large refrigerator type Side by Side instead of the usual;
  • Arrangement of the sofa area;
  • Installation of a peninsula, a mobile mini-island or a table-island;
  • Arrangement of a cupboard or a small pantry;
  • Installing the wine cabinet.

In this material, we presented a selection of photo-examples of 8 real 16-meter kitchens, an overview of 6 layout options, as well as advice on design and repair.

6 possible layouts

Design kitchen layout is better in a special program (eg, PRO100) - so it will be easier for you to "play" with the arrangement and size of the furniture. You need to start the project with the definition of the place of washing, since it is most often stationary. Then go to the "installation" of the plate, refrigerator, work area. When you plan the functional part of the kitchen, proceed to planning the dining area. Of course, there are a lot of variants of planning, but all of them can be divided into several basic types:

  • Linear;
  • L-shaped;
  • Parallel;
  • U-shaped;
  • Peninsular;
  • Island.

Let's consider the pros and cons of these plans, as well as their visual photo-examples.

Linear Layout

Pros:It is simple in design, universal, good in combination with the island / peninsula, and also in case there is only one free wall in the kitchen. For example, this often happens in the kitchen-living room and in the studio.

.

Minuses:It is not convenient in everyday life and cooking, as it is very often to run back and forth.

Below is a photo-example of the interior of a combined kitchen-dining room with an area of 16 square meters. m with a linear layout.

.

L-shaped layout

Pros:A win-win for any kitchen, as it allows you to use two walls, create a "working triangle" and leave enough space for the dining area.

Minuses:they are practically nonexistent.

Next is a photo of the interior of a 16-meter kitchen (9 × 5 m) with a corner suite and exit to the balcony.

.

Parallel Layout

Pros:If your 16-meter kitchen is narrow or has an elongated shape, then a parallel (two-row) layout will be very handy here. You can use two walls and conveniently place the functional points: a stove, a sink and a workstation on one side, and an oven, a refrigerator, a cupboard, a wine cabinet, a bar, etc. - on the opposite. The main condition - there must be a distance between the two rows, m. Too narrow a passage will be inconvenient for opening the bottom drawers, and too large for cooking.

.

Minuses:Two-row layout narrows and somewhat clutters the space, and for the placement of a square shape it is often not convenient.

Below you can see an example of a somewhat unusual two-row kitchen-living room of 16 sq. M. m in the holiday home. The "wall" here apparently seems exclusively ceremonial, but in reality it hides in itself everything that is necessary for cooking and storing utensils.

.

U-shaped layout

Pros:The most convenient layout, as in the cooking process you do not have to make unnecessary movements. Especially good is the U-shaped kitchen, if it is possible to build it at the window - then the working area will always be illuminated by daylight, and it will be more pleasant to wash dishes or cook in it. By the way, keep in mind that the distance between two sidewalls of the letter P must be at least 1- meter.

Minuses:The layout is not available in every kitchen, as it requires a lot of space.

Next on the picture is a 16-square-meter kitchen design. meters, in one corner of which is built a small pantry.

.

Peninsular

Pros:Peninsula - a module that ends up against the wall or is a continuation of the headset. It can embed a technique (stove, refrigerator, wine, cabinet) and / or use it as a workplace and a bar counter. The peninsula makes the kitchen very comfortable and, moreover, can divide it into zones - working and dining rooms or to the kitchen and living room. At the same time, the peninsula takes up less space than the island.

Minuses:The location and equipping of the peninsula with machinery and the more so with a sink or gas stove needs to be planned before repairs. So, for example, carrying a sink will require lengthening of communications (which is undesirable and not always possible) and raising the floor level. To complicate the repair can and installation of hoods, because for this you will have to extend the duct and hide it under the suspended ceiling structure. However, you can hang a recirculation type hood with carbon filters.

In the next photo slider you can consider the kitchen interior with the peninsula, which is a continuation of the headset and is used only as a desk and bar counter.

.
.

Island

Pros:The island unlike the peninsula is open from all sides, which makes it as convenient as possible for cooking and snacking.

Minuses:all the same as the peninsula, but the island also requires a very large space. Not at every kitchen will it be possible to install it not to the detriment of the dining area - either from something refuse, or pick up an island in a small amount, such as in this kitchen interior, an area of 1, sq. m. m (5 ×, 8 m).

.

Advice

When planning a kitchen, observe the rule of the "working triangle"

A sink, a refrigerator and a stove are the three peaks of the so-called "working triangle". Having located at a distance of not more than 1 meter from each other, you can create a very convenient space for all kitchen affairs.

Focus on the dining area

A modest dining area is required for small kitchens, but on 16 squares it can and should be arranged on a grand scale, both in size and in decor. In fact, the dining area in the 16-meter kitchen can be practically a ceremonial dining room.

.
  • The table can be chosen not only in a compact square or rectangular shape, but also round or oval.
  • Chairs can be not light, but massive, for example, with soft upholstery.
  • Instead of a pair of chairs you can put a banquet, a bench or a sofa with cute pillows.
  • The dining area can be placed non-standard - in the center of the kitchen. This is possible in case the kitchen is not too narrow.

Clearly zoned space

In a 16-meter kitchen, and even more so in a combined kitchen-living room or kitchen in the studio apartment, the working part should be clearly separated from the dining room, bar or sofa area.

  • This can be done with the help of a carpet, different lighting, different finishes of floors, walls or ceiling.

More clearly zoning space can be done with the help of physical "dividers for example, a sofa, a bar counter, a peninsula, a curtain or a screen.

Add color to the interior, but do not overdo it.

Unlike small kitchens, the kitchen is 16 square meters. meters can be not only white or beige. If desired, you can decorate its interior in bright and even dark colors. For example, the headset can be the color of a tree, and the walls are covered with wallpaper with a large pattern. True, overdoing with variegated and dark colors is not worth it, otherwise the 16-meter kitchen will cease to seem spacious.

Create uniform lighting

It is very important to light the entire kitchen area evenly. The standard scheme - a central chandelier + backlighting headset here will not work, as the feeling of spaciousness due to sharp shadows is lost. Ideally, the chandelier should be hung over the dining table, and on the perimeter of the ceiling set point lights (example in the photo). If repairs are not included in your plans, then wall sconces or one or two floor lamps installed in the dining area, for example, can improve the lighting.
