One of the criteria for choosing a hood for the kitchen is its size. They are different, but since they are standardized, choosing a suitable model will not be difficult, especially if you are assisted by a competent consultant seller. And yet, some rules and nuances are better to know before making a purchase.

Dome width = width of slab?

Width - this is the first thing you need to pay attention to when choosing the size of the hood, since it has a significant effect on the collection efficiency of fat particles, odors, fumes. What size should the hood be above the stove, so that even when working in a weak mode, and thus with less energy consumption, wear and noise, it was still effective?

  • Focus on the rule: the hood should be equal to the stove, and ideally - wider. If the width of the hood is smaller than the hob, or it will not be located above the stove, but slightly displaced, then the quality of air purification will noticeably decrease;

  • If you have not yet selected a plate, then you need to be guided by the distance between the hinged cabinets or the dimensions of the hinged module, into which the built-in hood will be installed. If space allows, then choose a hood 60, 80 or 90 cm.

Kitchen hoods have the following size range: 30 cm, 45 cm, 50 cm, 60 cm, 80 cm, 90 cm, 100 cm and 120 cm wide. It is logical that the size range of the plate or built-in hob is about the same. The most common width of the dome is 60 and 90 cm, because in this size they are best suited for a standard plate with four burners. But the overall hoods with an umbrella of 100 and 120 cm will need to be looked for, as the demand for them is small, because it's not kitchen, but professional models.

.

You need to focus on the size of the working exhaust surface, rather than the size of the hood. It often happens that the dome itself is wide, but the working exhaust surface is small. An example of such an extract on the right.

The built-in model, in this case, will be more practical due to the sliding element, which increases the catching area.

And on the following photos you can see how large a built-in hood can be, on the left - a model 30 cm wide.

.

Depth of dome and embedded model

The depth of the hood is as important as its width, as it was already noted, the larger the area of the working retracting surface, the more efficient the cleaning of the kitchen air. Standard depth parameters correspond to typical width options, these are: 30, 45, 50, 60, 80, 90, 100, 120 cm. The depth of the exhaust working surface must be equal to or greater than the depth of the plate or built-in hob. The dome may be larger than the depth of the mounted modules, but not more than the depth of the table top.

But the depth of the hood for installation is adjustable, but its hull, of course, must match the depth of the kitchen hanging cupboards, as shown in the photo below.

What should be the height?

Hoods for the kitchen are different and in height. The maximum height of the dome model is 125 cm.

.

The following photos show examples of devices of different heights (scroll to the right).

.

The height of the appliance is necessarily chosen depending on the overall height of the room and the height of the kitchen set. The safety distance is regulated by the minimum distance between the exhaust surface and the plate. As a rule, this value is equal to 65-75 cm. A decrease in this value is fraught with ignition and deterioration of the technique due to constant high temperatures. The built-in or dome hood should be located more than 65 cm from the electric stove, and for gas stoves this value is 75 cm.

Mounting Features

The choice of installation site is directly affected by the design features of the model you like. Wall or ceiling structures are not concealed by cabinets and installed exactly above the plate, with special masking boxes often used for the air duct. But the model for embedding will require the manufacture of appropriate furniture.

.

Please note that for the installation of the hood, pipes, socket and electrical cable, ducts, mounting hardware and fastening elements are needed. Do not do without a duct - it can be a corrugated pipe or a smooth-walled sleeve.

Corrugated pipes differ in that they can be bent at any angle.

.

Keep in mind that bending the duct over 90 degrees is not allowed.

Do not forget that there are special boxes that make it possible to hide the air duct, to integrate communications into any kitchen design.

The diameter of the duct depends on how the outlet in the house is made, and the length of the pipe is determined depending on the distance of the device, from the opening in the wall or from the ventilation shaft.

If it is a question of installing a built-in hood, then everything must be done in accordance with the installation instructions. The main criteria for installing the device for installation are:

.
  1. The drawer of the device is always left visible;
  2. The outlet is always connected to the vent.

If there is no possibility of such a connection or the air-discharge pipes can not be laid, then a recirculation model can be installed - among them there are also options for integration.
