Devices that clean the air in our kitchens, hoods, are presented in a huge range. Meanwhile, the main components that make up their composition are the same - the engine that catches the plane, the control panel and the filter for the kitchen hood.

Grease filters

In any kitchen air cleaner, a fat filter is mandatory. It is designed to purify the airflow that passes through the device from the fine suspended fatty particles. If it were not, it would not have been a month since the internal surfaces of the hood, including the engine, were covered with a layer of oil suspension.

The fat filter can be disposable and reusable - it is clear that the latter type is better and more practical. Disposable models are made of sintepon, acrylic or non-woven fabric and are most often installed in flat-type budget structures. Such "mats" of synthetic fabrics are discarded as soon as they become contaminated.

Disposable fat "catchers" can not be washed, from washing they lose all their properties. That is why they are disposable.

The use of this "updated" product in this way is fraught with engine breakdowns.

.

But the metal grease filter will serve as much as the extract itself - it is distinguished by its quality, safety, reliability and durability. Such designs are better, because they do not need replacing, but require only periodic rinsing.

A traditional fat filter is a cassette in the form of a metal frame and a mesh element made of foil (in the form of a grid or with a perforation). The perforation here may be uniform or asymmetric, and the provided cells are necessary to change the direction of the air flow. This allows you to hold fat particles on the surface.

The fatty metal filter can be produced from aluminum, galvanized steel or thin stainless steel. In high-quality engineering, aluminum is anodized additionally, which protects the product from oxidation. Such designs can have several layers or can be executed in the form of several modules. Two or three separate cassettes are easier to care for - they are easy to remove, wash and return to the place.

The grease filter made of stainless steel is considered to be better than aluminum, as this material has a longer service life. In addition, products of this type efficiently purify the air.

.

Carbon Filters

If we are talking about recirculation models that purify the air in the kitchen and send it back to the room, there is a mandatory carbon filter for the hood. After all, in such models it is important not only to remove soot and grease, but also to clean the air from extraneous odors.

Installation of a coal "catcher" is provided behind the grease trap. At the heart of this element is a qualitative adsorbent, activated carbon. He perfectly absorbs all the smells.

.

It should be remembered that in the recirculation mode the throughput of the exhaust falls by 15-20%, and the installation of the absorbent product further reduces it. If the coal adsorbent accumulates in itself the pollution, then the air through it will pass all the worse and worse.

The charcoal filter for exhaust is often not included in the basic equipment, and is purchased separately. In addition, it is a replaceable element, which will have to be purchased as wear and tear constantly.

Outwardly, such an element may look like a rectangular cassette or a circle. The body in the product is plastic, and the coal is held by a special net. Activated carbon here in the form of powder or granules.

.

The larger the total area of the absorbent particles, the better the "catcher" works. Due to the caking in one place of coal, the efficiency of the hood drops.

Filters of this type are considered disposable - they are replaced every 3-4 months on average. However, the life of the element is determined not by "age but by the duration of operation - it all depends on how long the extractor works every day.

To maintain the performance of coal adsorbent for a long time, you can leave the hood turned on for 3-7 minutes after use. During this time, the moisture residues from the coal evaporate, which means that it will not condense and lose its adsorbing ability.

.

Care and Replacement

The fat filter accumulates on the cells all the impurities, preventing them from penetrating into the internal parts of the device. How best to clean it in practice? The following simple technology should be observed:

  1. Filters are removed from the hood. To do this, you may need to remove the decorative panel (if it is in the design). To unlatch, the lock releases and the cassette retracts.
  2. The metal filter is immersed in an aqueous solution of a standard detergent. It can also be washed in a dishwasher, vertically mounted.
  3. This will allow the dirt to easily wash off. If you wash by hand, it is better to use brushes and constantly wash the mesh under the pressure of hot water. But from such a tool as soda, it is better to refuse, because on the metal after it may remain brown spots. Do not, also, choose a high-temperature mode in the dishwasher - from elevated temperatures, aluminum can oxidize and darken.
  4. The washed filters should dry at room temperature.

At the final stage, the filters are installed in place. To do this, the cassette is placed in the cell, after which the latch snaps into place.

The grease filter should be washed once in 2-3 months in a dishwasher - if this technique is not available, then once a month the net should be washed manually. This is not difficult, especially if you consider that its installation is elementary.

And the process of replacing the coal filter is as follows:

.
  • The hood is disconnected from the mains (this is necessary for safety);
  • Antifire filter is removed;
  • The carbon filter is removed from the cassette;
  • The installation of a new carbon filter is made - the fact that the operation was carried out correctly, is indicated by a click;
  • The exhaust is switched on and checked for vibrations and extraneous noises, which could provoke improper installation of the filter elements.
