Which stove is better: gas or electric

Having decided to get a new stove, the modern hostess is literally lost in choice. In any store you will find whole "avenues", crammed with gas and electric stoves of all shapes, colors and equipment. What to choose? Maybe this one is electric, which fits perfectly into a strict kitchen design, or is that gas, reliable and time-tested, perfect fit?

Compare both options

In order not to be mistaken with the choice, you have to learn the main functional differences between these kitchen appliances. Despite the fact that the purpose of the gas and electric stoves is the same, the methods of operation of these devices differ. Gas is the blue flame that we know from childhood under the bottom of the saucepan, and the electric flame is a flat surface with heating zones. What follows from this? Here's what:

  • “+” gas stove boils water faster, you can use any saucepans on it, and your old grandmother will not be able to damage it with her “family” jagged pan.

  • "-" open fire, which you probably already burned. A large level of explosion and fire hazard, yet in this case we are dealing with gas. And also the possibility of leakage of this very gas.
  • "+" is a clear plus of the electrical device in that there is no open flame. The heating elements are hidden under the surface of the stove, the risk of burns is accidentally minimal. Also, you do not "fill in" the burner, which is very dangerous on a gas stove.
  • "-" the electric stove heats up for quite a long time, which means that the cooking time increases. Well, the main disadvantage that this stove has is the high cost of electricity.

Perhaps now you will say: “nothing, they prepared all their life on gas, what’s wrong with that?”.But you must admit, modern electric stoves, equipped with a glass-ceramic surface and a hidden control system, look somewhat better against the background of traditional models with gas burners. And it's not just in the “futuristic” style, which is perfect for Hi-Tech kitchen, but the fact is that it’s easy to clean the flat surface!

Ware, placed on a flat electric hob, will be much more stable than standing on the grid. Also, the electric stove provides a more uniform heating of the bottom, which has a positive effect on the cooking speed and the quality of your dish.

The segmental residual heat indication system allows you to accurately determine which of the hotplates have not completely cooled down. This feature will avoid burns if inadvertently in contact with a heated surface, and also keep food warm for a longer time.

Another important factor in favor of the electric stove is the absence of combustion products. It is not a secret that through the pipes we are fed not a pure gas, but a gas mixture that clogs the exhaust filter and pores in the wall tile with a sticky oily film when burned, which is very unpleasant and takes a long time to wash.

Gas stoves do not give up so easily!

You have already been inspired by the ease of care, appreciated the modernity and functionality that an electric stove has, but do not rush into the store. Let's take another look, only now from a different angle, on our plates. After all, so that the sellers do not “sing” there, it is up to you to choose which one is better.

The cooking process is easiest to control on the gas burner, it quickly heats the walls of your dishes, which means that the food in it is cooked faster and less time is exposed to high temperatures. Consequently, you save more nutrients and vitamins in your diet.

Electric plates in this case are slightly inferior due to their inertia. Boiled in the Turkish coffee or milk for porridge in a small scoop can be easily kept within their dishes by simply turning off the gas under it. A plate with pancake burners or a glass-ceramic surface will be hot for some time after the shutdown, and the ladle with milk will have to be immediately rearranged.

By the way, a little more about runaway coffee. It is much easier to wash the smooth surface of the electric stove, which does not have protrusions and high sides, but if something escapes, you will also have to wash the floor! Doubtful advantage, right? Such consequences can be avoided if the stove is gas-fired, it always has sides and spilled liquid remains within these boards.

The undoubted advantage is the presence of a gas stove where the electricity is periodically disconnected. Gas is usually supplied smoothly, and without electricity you can stay even after a strong thunderstorm. Also, electricity is much more expensive than gas, and this means that an electric stove can “fly a pretty penny” to its owner. Therefore, from the point of view of economy, it will be more profitable to purchase a gas stove.

In conclusion,

It is difficult to say unequivocally which plate is better, but perhaps by comparing the pros and cons you will make the right decision. Buying a stove is a matter of responsibility, because how much time you have to spend in the kitchen depends on its functionality, reliability and ease of maintenance. If your choice still fell on electric stoves - choose a glass-ceramic surface. A gas stove should be equipped with a security system that instantly stops the gas supply when the burners are poured.
