Abutilona with bells in the shape of bells or resembling widely opened corolla of hibiscus is becoming increasingly popular among fans of indoor plants. And the reason is not only in the lush flowering, but also in the unpretentiousness of the culture, as well as in the ease of its reproduction.

Reproduction of Abutilon with

Seeds Quite large seeds of abutilon are first germinated before being planted in the ground, for which it is convenient to use several cotton pads or napkins. The disks are placed in a shallow container, moistened so that they are completely soaked with water, but at the bottom of the container the water does not stagnate.

For germination, it is better to take boiled, thawed or distilled warm water. On top of the wet layer lay out the seeds and cover the container with a lid or film.

The swelling of seeds for breeding abutilon begins already within a few hours. It is better to keep the container warm at about 25 ° C.The appearance of the roots will become noticeable in 4–8 days. Miniature sprouts are transferred to the ground, however, it is not worth delaying the transplant, as fast-growing roots are easily damaged. This method is useful if there are doubts about the germination of seeds selected for reproduction of abutilon.

If the seed, well ripened and fresh, it can be sown immediately in a nutrient-friendly substrate, and even better - in peat tablets.

In this case, it is important to prevent excessive seed penetration. It is optimal if the soil layer is just a couple of millimeters above the seeds. In the substrate sprouts receive a full range of nutrients and a sufficient amount of moisture. They quickly acclimatize after picking and soon reach the size of a specimen ready for flowering.

You can dive the seedlings at the stage of two true leaves. At this size, the plants fit pots with a volume of no more than 50-100 ml. And then, as the indoor flower grows, the abutilon is transplanted into a larger container.

If there is already an adult plant in the house, it can be used to obtain cuttings and reproduction of the favorite species of abutilon.

Although the seeds of this flower sprout well, and it is possible to grow a young, ready to bloom specimen for one year, the vegetative method has many advantages:

  • When cutting a plant, you can be sure that the daughter plant will retain all the properties of the mother, including variegated foliage and other characteristicshybrids.
  • Significantly shortens the time from planting until the first flowers appear on the leaves.

How to cutting a abutilon?

At home, abutilon develops very rapidly and during the growing season, continuing from spring to late autumn, it produces young shoots of considerable length. Therefore, in pot culture, abutilons necessarily cut, helping the crown to bush and stay compact. In addition, the forming promotes lush flowering, because the buds appear only on young shoots.

Pruning is carried out in the spring and at the end of summer, when the main wave of flowering abutilon ends. In this case, not only weak and damaged shoots are removed, but also at least one third of the length is cut from strong branches. The resulting cuttings, having at least 2-3 interstices, should not be thrown away, because this is the best planting material.

It is enough to release the cuttings of abutilon from the lower tiers of leaves, the remaining buds and flowers, and then put them into the water and cover the container with a package. After a few days at a temperature above 22 ° C, a thickening and rudiment of thin white roots can be seen at the end of the stem.

To protect the plant from rotting, a tablet of activated charcoal or several crushed pieces of charcoal can be dropped into the water.

Root formation from 3 to 7 cm in length means that the abutilon can be transplanted to a permanent place. For a young flower of abutilon, a pot with a diameter of about 7 cm is sufficient. At the bottom, a powerful drainage is made, on top of which a small layer of soil is poured and the seedling is carefully transferred to it.

It is necessary to sprinkle a sprout with a wet substrate very carefully, since the roots of abutilon are fragile and can break off. For the same reason, the soil after transplantation is better not to specifically seal. Rooting and acclimatization of the cutting of abutilon takes place in a few weeks, as evidenced by the appearance of young leaves. Well, if this time the plant is in a greenhouse or covered with a package that creates a constant microclimate.

The temperature for rooting a flower of abutilon should not be high. The optimum level is 20–22 ° C.

In three or four weeks, rooting of cuttings takes place, shortly after cutting, planted in a moist substrate of peat and vermiculite. Such plants after a month of stay in the greenhouse can also be transplanted into individual pots. As a rule, young saplings in a few months actively bloom, and after the end of the growing season, they can already become a source for subsequent cutting of abutilon.

Pollination of a flower of abutilon and obtaining seeds of

You can propagate abutilon with seeds obtained from pollination of plants at home. Transferring pollen from one plant to another, you can get hybrid seeds with unprecedented properties.

A clean, dry cotton swab or a thin brush can be a tool for such work. It is this method of breeding abutilona breeders use.

And the success of pollination is indicated by the formation of a multifaceted box in place of a flower, which begins to dry up in about a month, and then unfolds.

Sowing is carried out in the manner already described, and a video about the abutilone and details of the flower propagation process will help avoid annoying errors in this interesting case.
