Do-it-yourself wood porch - building experience

An integral part of every home is a porch. It would seem that the detail is insignificant compared with the foundation, walls and roof, but without it, just do not get into the building. Therefore, I want to share with you my experience: a wooden porch with your own hands is a budget option. What to cook for work?

For work, I needed slag stones, timber, planks, sheet metal and tools at hand: jigsaw( you can use a hacksaw), drill, screwdriver.

But, before proceeding with the construction, it is necessary to make some simple calculations.

Can be made wider, just keep in mind that additional columns of the foundation will be needed.

Now, about the steps themselves: there should be an even number of them, that is, from which foot a person began to climb the stairs, that one should finish. Therefore, estimate the height of your staircase and make the angle of inclination so that even number of steps is left.

Any building should have a foundation, so everything starts with a small and simple column base.

At first I made a marking, then dug holes at its corners about 40 cm deep, covered them with sand and put cement into blocks using cement mortar, so that they would make strong and solid pillars protruding 60 cm above the ground.

a little higher than this level, but after all, the binding and the floor will take about another 15-20 cm.

I checked all the pillars from the blocks with the help of a level, they should be of the same height, on top of them laid pieces of roofing material for waterproofing.

Then I made the bottom trim, for it I used a bar 150 × 100 mm, we can say that I made a lot of security and I could even get an elephant on the porch, in fact 100 × 100 mm is enough. These are exactly the bars 100 × 100 mm allowed on the racks( supports) of the frame and the top trim.

Be sure to mention that all wooden material was pretreated with used engine oil, this is the cheapest way, although you can take special impregnation.

I cut out the grooves in the lower trim bars and laid the logs at a distance of 40 cm from each other, in my case there were only two of them, but this is enough.

Then I tied the screws to the logs and the paving of the floor board with a thickness of 20 mm, but here we must take into account one thing: the boards should not fit tightly to each other, leaving a distance of 2-3 mm between them. This is necessary in order for moisture to escape through them and to be able to air quickly. On the upper trim also in sawn grooves laid crate boards, which secured a sheet of metal.

Staircase for Porch

Now the staircase itself. For it you will need a wide board 60 x 300 mm, it is called a string. On the bowstring zapily made, do not think that everything can be cut exactly by eye, will not work. Therefore, I made a piece of ordinary cardboard, cut a triangle, where one side of 20 cm is the opening under the step, the second side is 30 cm - the depth of the step itself, and connected the two sides with an ordinary straight line( hypotenuse).Here is a piece applied to the bowstring and circled, and after, on the markup, I sawed with an electric jigsaw.

There should be two such toothed boards, because they are the sidewalls on which the steps need to be laid. He estimated their length and, at the point of contact between the bowstring and the earth, made a small concreted site, it will serve as a good fastening, will not allow the soil under the stairs to sag and will prevent puddles and dirt from the stairs after the rain. The bowstring pulled the top edge to the floor crate with screws, and the bottom edge to the concrete pad. Next, secure the boards, which will be under the step, they are called “risers”.On top of the risers and laid in the grooves on the string placed themselves steps, boards with a thickness of 20 mm.

If you are confused by the basement parts of the finished porch, and do not want anyone to see under it, you can close them with any material, such as plywood or flat slate. But I didn’t do this, under my porch my pets like Tom cat and Bucks dog are very fond of hiding from the heat. But the front paint on the water-based frame is painted, so fun and elegant looks.
