Correct pruning plays a key role in currant care. This is done in early autumn or spring before bud break. The purpose of pruning is to ensure the annual growth of fruitful fresh branches, the achievement of high yield and quality of currant fruit.
An important aspect when pruning currant branches is the ability to distinguish the lifetime of a particular branch. The most fruitful are the branches that make growth from 25 to 40 cm. in year.
There are two stages of currant pruning:
- The formation of the bush;
- Supportive pruning.
