However, information about the allegedly increased radiation background of natural stone sometimes pops up on the network and online media. Is the stone really radioactive, and, therefore, dangerous for humans, or are these statements just the result of unfair competition?
Experts working in the field of stone mining, as well as builders dealing with it, do not support this statement. To dispel the myth of radioactivity, German scientists also conducted their research. And they came to the conclusion that natural stone is absolutely safe in this regard.
About 80% of the stone samples gave a slight indication of radiation (in the range from 0.1 to 0.2 microsievert / h). Moreover, granite emits more than other rocks, and marble or sandstone have the smallest level. That is, the radiation of natural stone is equal to the natural background. Given that the farther the stone is from the ground, the less radiation from it, it can be neglected. It turns out that the stone mined for sale can be used without fear for health.
Russian scientists have also spoken out in this regard. Experts remind that the natural radioactive background is everywhere: in different cities its level can be different. For some reason many people are accustomed to attribute granite to dangerous radiation sources. But, in the opinion of scientists, even if it is slightly fonit, then all concrete must be checked for safety. Some of his brands include granite, and he also has phonite.
It turns out that the high radioactivity of natural stone is nothing more than a myth, the spread and vitality of which is supported, for example, by manufacturers of artificial stone and stone tiles. Of course, the manufacturer and seller must have all the documents for natural material. The buyer has the right to ask for certificates and hygienic studies, where there are marks on the passage of radiation control.
