Porcelain tile is a reliable and durable facing material, which is an alternative to ceramic tiles with the properties of natural stone. The composition of porcelain stoneware includes feldspar, clay, sand, mica and granite chips. The material is obtained by extrusion and annealing at high temperatures. Before you figure out how to choose a quality material and why you should not give preference to cheap products, consider the existing types and advantages inherent in the material.
Highlighting the advantages of porcelain, it is impossible not to note its environmental friendliness, which is achieved by using components of natural origin. The complete absence of pores allows porcelain stoneware to be water and frost-resistant. This also eliminates the possibility of impregnation of the plate with adhesive material, from which ceramic tile often suffers.
Porcelain tile has a high level of wear resistance, resistance to mechanical damage, as well as color consistency. By the way, the shade is not subject to change both when exposed to solar ultraviolet radiation, and chemicals in the form of alkalis and acids.
The most common types today are:
- Technical - suitable for laying industrial floors.
- Matte - has a high level of hardness and anti-slip surface.
- Polished - the most demanding for additional care look. This is explained by the used abrasive treatment, which not only gives the material a smooth and even surface, but also reduces the level of wear resistance.
- Satin - a material with an unobtrusive shine, obtained as a result of the applied mineral salt.
Saving money when buying porcelain stoneware often becomes the reason that the tiles do not match with each other in shade and color. Manufacturers of cheap products do not pay due attention to this issue. A surface lined with such a coating can have a very uneven appearance.
It is not uncommon for budget ceramic granite tiles to have a different caliber. This is not noticeable in the selection process, however, the laid plates will clearly differ in their height.
In order to buy porcelain tiles, I did not happen to encounter low-quality material that neither aesthetic appearance, nor quality meet expectations, it is recommended not to make your choice in favor of the cheapest options. In addition, it makes sense to pay attention to the weight of one porcelain tile. If it does not reach 18.5 kg, then it is most likely that the material is of poor quality.
