Builders are well aware that without the use of gravel today many construction manipulations are impossible. Remember only about reinforced concrete, which is made on the basis of:
- High-quality brand of cement,
- Sand
- Water,
- Rubble.
There are many different opinions regarding the latter component today. Someone says that gravel is a very harmful and hazardous material. Someone is ready to argue with this opinion. What is rubble with itself, how is it mined, how to determine the degree of its radioactivity?
What it is?
Before you begin, you need to understand that gravel is granite, which is mined in special quarries. Just recall that embankments, bridges, and curbs located along the roads are made from this material. If we mention the use of granite in domestic conditions, one immediately recalls the luxurious granite window sills, countertops, located in the kitchen room. In museums you can often find flowerpots, various granite bowls that adorned the palaces of kings, noble nobles.
Three degrees of radioactivity
Without further ado, one can safely say that gravel is a radioactive material. Layers of granite, which lie underground, resemble a lens. Some of them are more radioactive, some less radioactive. Experts know very well how to determine the degree of radioactivity of this irreplaceable building material from one appearance.
To begin with, they take a rock sample, in fact, large stones explode, getting a fine fraction. As a rule, the resulting small pebbles are covered with clay, sand. They need to be poured with water, after drying, determine the degree of radioactivity of the material visually, while not using a dosimeter.
So, if the crushed stone has bright red, pink blotches, then with a probability of up to 99% such crushed stone is phonite, that is, it exudes radiation. Accordingly, it is strictly forbidden to use it in the construction of kindergartens, city houses, institutions where people will be.
The second category of rubble is the one that is completely gray, that is, light gray, dark gray blotches alternate here. This is a safe category of rubble that can be used anywhere.
To today, the material is divided into three categories 1, 2, 3. The first is absolutely safe material; there are some restrictions on the use of the second. The third is radioactive material, which, according to current state standards, is not recommended.
