Porcelain tile - the best option for finishing the floor in the hallway on the basis of a set of common criteria - price, quality, aesthetics, durability. But in order for the selected tile to really last a long time without losing its appearance, you still need to choose it correctly from the huge amount on the market. How to do this and what to rely on will be considered in detail.
The main criteria for choosing porcelain stoneware for the hallway
When choosing a floor covering, they first turn to the characteristics of the room in which it will lie. The entrance hall is the most passable place, so the tile must be strong enough.
Here they constantly go in dirty shoes, respectively, the floor is subjected to endless impacts of household chemical and abrasive products. Therefore, the tile must be of high enough quality so as not to collapse under their action.
And the sole of the shoe itself is a real test for any floor covering. Take at least women's heels or metal pads against slipping on children's boots - such shoes primarily increase the abrasion of the floor covering.
Also, in many hallways, the tile is exposed to a temperature difference (especially in the cold season) when opening the door. Not everywhere are warm entrances and covered verandas in the house. From such temperature differences, even if not soon, the incomplete coating will become unusable - cracks, chips will appear, and brittleness will increase.
Based on this, we pay attention to the following characteristics:
- Resistance to wear should be within the 3-5 class. On the packaging, this characteristic will be indicated by PEI (class numerical value);
- Water permeability is an important indicator on which the durability of a product depends. Indeed, from the effects of moisture, any building material goes into the active phase of destruction. The water resistance of porcelain stoneware for the hallway should be at least 3%;
- Glossy tiles are not recommended for use in the hallway, as the level of sliding automatically increases and, as a result, the level of injury increases. Even some matte tiles can be slippery. Therefore, the coefficient of friction should not be higher than 0.75%;
- The best sort of tile is the first;
- Among manufacturers, the best are brands from Italy and Spain.
Making a choice in favor of tiles with overestimated technical characteristics, one may not notice these indicators in practice. But, the fact that large sums of money are spent is a fact.
