How to mask nails on platbands

Without the installation of platbands, there would be no neat and complete look of the doorway. But in their aesthetics you can find flaws - finish nails. Let them be very small, but still clearly visible on the smooth surface of the clypeus. Add some “magic” and tell you how to make them invisible.

To block the mounting nails on the casing, there are several effective and simple ways:

• Knock down a hat of nails and mount with the resulting metal legs. Of course, there will be small holes. But they will be so small that they will be noticeable only if they are examined in detail;
• Drive the mounting nail to the casing level and deepen it with 2-3 mm with another nail. Putty and sand the hole;
• Put platbands on self-tapping screws. At the same time, drown the head in the platband by several millimeters. Insert special masking pads into the head of the screws. Sold in any furniture stores;
• Another option for self-tapping screws is to drive them under the face, cover with plaster. After it dries, make a spot color of the clypeus;

• Get the lacquer in the color of the platband and mask the nail caps with it. The work is painstaking and neat. To make it well you need to apply a varnish with a match;
• Use a special wax that can wipe the ends of the clypeus. It is easy to use, but also has a high cost.

If the platband is wooden:

• As an alternative to putty, you can use a mixture of wood glue and sawdust. After the filled hole has dried, it must be carefully sanded. Paint the repaired place with a special furniture pencil;
• At the location of the future fasteners, you need to carefully break off a small sliver. Drive a nail, while drowning it a bit and stick a sliver into place.

If the job has already been done, and dismantling with the subsequent installation of the platbands masking them is not an option, then you can purchase special stickers. They are sold in sets, look like small circles in diameter on an adhesive basis. Before gluing them, thoroughly clean the base from contaminants and dust. You can replace such a store disguise by selecting roll self-adhesive by the color of the casing and already make small “patches” from it.

In order not to work on masking nails on the casing, you can initially mount it on carpentry glue or liquid nails. Then the surface will remain pristine smooth.
