Determine the design - drawings and diagrams

The beginning of work is the development of a drawing indicating all sizes, locations of fixtures, finish, etc., which is typical for the manufacture of any furniture. It can be either developed individually based on your requirements, or taken from a variety of photos presented on the Internet. Do not confine yourself to a simple design - double beds can be high and low, have additional linen boxes, draw-out mechanism, etc. In the process of work, you should constantly check the drawing, control the conformity of sizes and the correctness of all steps.

Steps for assembling a double bed

The complexity of manufacturing furniture entirely depends on the selected material, which can be:

Preparatory measures are already behind us and it's time to start the most interesting thing - the manufacturing process. Particular attention should be paid to continuous quality control and compliance with the dimensions noted in the drawing. Remember that there is no rush, and most importantly - a quality result. We make a double bed in several stages:

• The main frame. The model, equipped with a lifting mechanism, additionally consists of a bottom and also starts with a frame. Details are cut with a jigsaw according to the dimensions indicated in the diagram, after which fixing holes are drilled into them for the diameter of the screws. The ends of the boards are carefully processed with sandpaper to perfect smoothness, after which they are opened with wood glue and fixed with self-tapping screws. Streaks of glue are carefully removed with a damp rag. In conclusion, it is necessary to carefully check the angles with a square. After the structure has completely dried, it is painted in any shade based on personal preferences. In addition, for a frame that looks like a box, you will need to make a bottom (slatted or solid plywood).
• Installation of supports from bottom rails. Holes for self-tapping screws are drilled in the supporting boards in compliance with a step of 25 cm, while it is more convenient to install them if the frame is installed on one side. The first support is fixed at a distance of 5 cm from the bottom and is obligatory, like the subsequent ones, covered with glue for wood. Fixation is carried out by self-tapping screws and then the supporting block must be pressed with clamps. Fixing holes are covered with putty and, after drying, are cleaned with sandpaper.
• Legs. The simplest stage, in which the beam is sawn into 6 elements with a length of 10.5 cm and is attached to the supporting bars. Four legs are attached at the corners and 2 more under the central support, which makes the frame stronger. We use long screws for this. Before screwing them, it is also required to drill fixing holes, which is especially important at this stage, since the probability of splitting the boards is high. Also, do not forget about the thorough processing of each part with sandpaper to smoothness.
• Decorative elements. Perform an important function - give the finished product a finished look. A suitable option is wooden slats 5x2.5 cm. They are cut from prepared materials, polished and opened with a stain, the shade of which is also selected based on the concept of the room and personal preferences. When the slats are dry, they should be varnished (preferably water-based), and in order to avoid the appearance of bubbles on the surface, the first layer is sanded and then 2 more layers are applied. At this stage, the bed legs are also varnished. Finished slats are glued to the frame, and then pressed for a short time with clamps. Smudges of glue are carefully removed with a damp rag, after which the elements are fixed with screws. The slats in beds equipped with a lifting mechanism are attached to the lifting frame. The principle of their manufacture is the same as that of decorative elements, while they are cut to the required size and carefully cleaned with sandpaper.
• Headboard. An important detail that performs a decorative function, protects the walls, increases the comfort of rest. Its dimensions and shape are selected individually, as well as the finish. The best option would be to cut the desired design from sheet plywood, and then wrap it with a cloth, previously covered with foam.

First, marking is applied to the plywood sheet, after which the part is sawn and its edges are cleaned with sandpaper. Next, foam is laid, which is fixed with a construction stapler and upholstered with a fabric coating. The easiest option for finishing the headboard is its simple painting or varnishing. The finished element is attached to the structure with several screws.

The final step will be the inspection of the resulting bed, the elimination of shortcomings in the form of smudges of glue or irregularities, if any. You should also measure the entire structure for compliance with the dimensions indicated in the drawing.

Installation of the lifting gear

The popularity of the lifting mechanism is well deserved, because with its help a spacious and roomy linen niche is arranged under the bed. The most common gas lift, but when buying it, you should determine the maximum withstand load, which is indicated in the marking. After acquiring a product you like, you can proceed with its installation:

• Mounting points are marked on the box and holes for bolts are drilled.
• The lower part of the mechanism is fixed, and a corner is attached to the frame.
• The base is lowered and the fixation points of the strap in its lowest position are marked on it.
