Many gardeners in the cultivation of seedlings, in particular peppers, use peat cups or tablets, which allows to avoid picking and injuring seedlings during transplantation. But there is not always an opportunity to purchase them, in addition, these are additional costs, so most often seeds are sown in the general capacity. In this case, the obligatory procedure for growing seedlings is picking. In the case of mass seeding, the shoots are thickened, as a result of which plants lack a free space for development, their roots are intertwined and they suffer from lack of illumination. Transplanting pepper seedlings from common dishes into separate containers will guarantee that the bushes will grow strong, and, accordingly, will be able to give a good harvest. When you need to pick up the pepper and how to do it right?
How to determine the time of picking?
The exact date of picking pepper is difficult to name, it all depends on when the seeds were sown. You need to focus on the overall development of bushes. For example, with the February sowing by early April, the seedlings are already sufficiently developed and one can proceed to the procedure. On average, from the moment of sowing to picking takes two to three weeks.
To prevent stretching of seedlings and to conduct a pick in time, a number of true leaves should be taken as a landmark: they must be at least two, but not more than four. An earlier or later pigeon is fraught with unpleasant consequences - plants can simply not get accustomed.
Where to dive?
You can transplant peppers in any dishes, the main thing is that it should be high enough, because the roots and The bush itself needs a place for development, and with holes for the outflow of excess moisture, so that the pepper does not is rotten. Fairly expensive peat pots can easily be replaced with a more affordable option - to make paper cups. They can also be planted in the ground, without removing the bushes (the paper will eventually decompose in the soil).
Plastic or cardboard packages from sour cream or yogurt better keep the shape than paper, but then the seedlings should be taken out.
How to pick the pepper?
Many beginners gardener think that the picking is a simple transplant, however, in addition to moving the seedlings in a separate bowl, the pepper has more and truncation of the central root to stimulate the formation of lateral processes, as a result of which it builds up a strong and ramified root system.
Two days before picking, pepper is not poured - the soil should dry slightly, so that the seedlings are easier to remove. But if the soil gets dense enough, then it's better to shed the bushes a couple of hours before the transplant.
The process of picking is quite simple:
- Using a stick or a small wooden spatula, carefully remove the bush from the common container, holding it by the stem;
- pinch roots, leaving ¾ of its length;
- plant a bush in a glass with nutritious and moistened soil.
Strongly deepen the seedlings is not necessary - it should be covered with earth to the place that before.
After picking pepper for two days stand in a dark place with a temperature of about 20 degrees, slightly moisturizing under the root. Seedlings can tie a little - this is normal, but it adapts quickly, and after a few days the pepper is returned to a bright spot where it begins to develop actively.
