During the renovation, questions constantly arise that often become a headache for homeowners. How to sheathe the ceiling in a room? What is the best way to use it? After all, I want to make it both beautiful and practical, and it would be nice if the material was environmentally friendly. The modern market is replete with various kinds of finishes, but experts recommend using lining. It is widely used in construction. She decorates not only the ceilings, but also the walls.

Reference. The origin of the name of the material is quite interesting. Once upon a time on the railway, freight cars (and not only) were trimmed with wooden slats. After some time, they began to be used for residential premises. Hence the general name of this building material - lining.

Its main advantage is naturalness. Rooms, where ceilings are sheathed with it, do not lose the ability to "breathe". The tree creates its own natural microclimate in the room. With an excess of moisture, it is absorbed, and if it is not enough, then it is released.

Work on finishing the ceiling with clapboard in a wooden house

If we compare the lining with other materials, then its installation does not require immediate execution. In the midst of work, you can arrange a break. In this case, nothing will happen to the finish. However, so that the work does not stretch out for a long period, it is better to prepare everything you need in advance.

Tools

First of all, you should stock up on the right tool:

  •  a hacksaw or electric jigsaw;
  • before fixing the frame under the crate, it is necessary to drill holes, and this will require an electric drill;
  • a bubble level is required;
  • rubberized hammer;
  • rightandlo;
  • tape measure and corner for measuring the size of the surface to be trimmed and measuring the materials;
  • construction or simple stationery pencil for marking wood or wall / ceiling surface.

Attention. When working with the material, it should be remembered that the joining of the lining is specific. To connect elements that have a groove and a ridge, they will need to be knocked out in the grooves. This should be done with a rubber hammer, otherwise there is a high probability of damaging the connecting element.

Ceiling preparation

Sheathing the room from the inside should be after the work on the outside of the dwelling comes to an end. No matter how good a house made of wood is, it also has its drawbacks, which should not be forgotten when starting finishing work.

The first problem you will have to face is high humidity. It can contribute to the development of various fungi and mold. Plating should begin with preparatory work. Installation must be carried out on a completely dry and level surface. The presence of any defects may negatively affect the final result.

All surfaces of walls and ceilings should be treated with an agent that prevents the formation of fungi and mold. Any antiseptic preparations that are sold in construction shops can cope with this.

Attention! All walls and ceilings should be treated, even if there are no manifestations of fungal infection on them.

If necessary, before starting the installation of the lining, the ceiling and walls are insulated. You can immediately make noise insulation. Any mineral wool material is used as insulation. A vapor barrier film serves this purpose well.

It should be mounted in such a way that the edges overlap. The process is carried out directly on the surface of the ceiling. A construction stapler is used for fastening. Bars are fixed to the insulation.

As soon as the preparation of the ceiling and walls is completed, you can begin to install the frame, which will hold the lining itself.

For its manufacture, a metal profile or wooden beams are used. The installation of the frame depends on how the lining will go. If it will be placed horizontally, then it should be placed vertically, and vice versa. The first step is to take care of the slats for the base of the frame. Their width should not exceed thirty millimeters.

Regardless of the method of fastening the lining, the rail is first installed vertically. The verticality will need to be checked with a level.

Attention. It is on how exactly the first rail is installed that the further quality of installation will depend. Tightened threads can be used to control the plane of the lining. All elements of the frame will be installed correctly if you keep a reference point on them.

The slats for the crate should be placed so that there is half a meter between them. At the end of the work, the entire crate is treated with an antiseptic. This completes all preliminary manipulations. Now the lining itself can be fixed.

Lining the lining

After the installation of the lathing, the most interesting and crucial stage begins - finishing. For work, it's a good idea to stock up on a partner:

  1. The first plank is installed directly against the wall. A special spike is used to fix it. Subsequent ones are fixed perpendicular to the crate.
  2. Before attaching the next bar, its position must be checked with a level.
  3. The next lining is inserted into the groove of the previous one. Where the planks adhere to the frame, they must be fixed.
  4. Other lining should be installed in the same way. It is known from practice that the closing bar most often needs to be trimmed. To hide the seam, it should be placed so that it is as little as possible visible to others. When installing the strips, at the same time, you should mark the holes where the lighting devices will stand, as well as various communications. The fixing of the panels should be done firmly.
  5. After the installation of the lining is completed, the plinth is laid along the perimeter of the ceiling. It must be matched to her in tone and made of wood. A varnish is applied over the finish. Alternatively, you can use paint.

Ceiling decoration

Any owner tries to use in the design all those advantages that are available in terms of decorating beams, beams and log cabins.

Beams can be decorated in the following ways:

  • chandeliers or other lighting fixtures are installed;
  • art painting is applied;
  • decoration is made from textiles;
  • additional illumination is created with the help of LED years;
  • forged hooks, various ties and other accessories are fixed on the beams;
  • pots of flowers are hung.

Types of lining

At the mention of the lining, associations arise with something wooden. Indeed, the classic finish is from this material and is made, but the industry does not stand still. New technologies have made it possible to create products using completely different raw materials. The design may be different, but their shape and installation method always remain unchanged. Based on the material that goes into the production of lining, the following types are distinguished.

Wooden

This option is environmentally friendly. Walls and ceilings with similar cladding breathe great. They can be painted or "opened" the texture with varnish. Since the tree is of various classes, there are four types of lining:

  1. Extra is a product of excellent quality. There are no defects on the surface. Possesses reliability in application. However, its cost is high. Such a lining is popular for external and internal decoration. Due to its thickness, it is often used in the construction of frame buildings. The texture has a nice design.

  2. "A" - production technology allows for the presence of some knots. However, the quality of the lining is not inferior to the extra.
  3. "B" - the material has sufficient strength to be used for decoration. But this class assumes various surface defects. A similar lining is used in baths, as well as on balconies.
  4. "C" - refers to the most inexpensive products. Due to its poor quality, it is used for utility buildings, as well as non-residential premises.

Reference. Lining made of wood differs in shape. Based on this, it is classified into regular and euro. The appearance of the latter is very similar to natural wood.

Plastic

The main purpose of the plastic lining is to finish the ceiling. This is a very fragile material and, if used for wall cladding, then it may not withstand the load exerted on it.

The panels are produced in various colors and completely different textures. This variety allows you to choose a lining for any room style. Plastic should not be used to decorate a kitchen or bathroom. They have high humidity, which negatively affects the finish of this material.

Panels imitating the surface of marble, granite color or natural wood are very popular among buyers. Due to the significant thickness and high strength of the plastic lining, the material is quite applicable not only for interior decoration, but also for exterior.

MDF

It has a great resemblance to natural wood, it is easy and simple to install, there is a huge variety of colors on sale. It is the best choice for finishing ceilings or walls. MDF has a major drawback - it is afraid of moisture. A wet panel deforms and delaminates. Not only the shapes and sizes of the lining differ. They may or may not be chamfered. This leads to the classification of the material into types:

  1. Normal - the surface of the product is flat. The front side is equipped with an additional chamfer, which creates a decorative seam after the installation is completed. It can have an angular or rounded appearance.
  2. "Calm" - due to the lack of a chamfer, there are no seams left after plating. Lumber walls are well imitated with a similar material. The panel thickness does not exceed 25 millimeters.
  3. Landhouse is the most expensive type of material. This difference in price is due to the special technologies that are used for its manufacture. In addition, from the front side, the board is processed with a milling cutter. This produces a woody pattern.
  4. "Block House" - is made in the form of a profile to imitate the sheathing with a bar. On the front side, the board is rounded. As soon as the assembly of the entire wall is completed, outwardly it seems that the house is a log house.

Recommendations for the selection and installation of the lining will help you to purchase high-quality material and properly finish the ceiling with it.
