8 kinds of feeders for chickens own hands

.

Feeding poultry by labor and money costs is the first in the process of breeding. In this regard, the selection of ready-made feeders must be approached with knowledge of the case.

You can save on money if you make them yourself. In addition to the financial incentive, you will get a moral and aesthetic pleasure, seeing how the chickens eat from their own feeders.

Requirements to be met

There are certain requirements for their manufacture:

  • Strength:they must be made of a material that holds a certain shape, little or no deformation;
  • Conveniencein operation: it is easy to clean, it can easily fall asleep food, and it is convenient for the bird to feed from it;
  • The number of units must ensure the fulfillment of its task -feed all livestock(if you put one small feeder on 50-100 heads, you can only imagine what will happen in the henhouse);
  • A feeder made from a specific material should be usedfor a certain type of feed;
  • She must besustainable(do not overturn or fall over on one's side from direct contact with the bird);
  • Rational use(made in such a way as to make it impossible to hit it with litter and minimize garbage).
  • It is producednot from harmfulfor the supply of materials.
For information: this list of requirements is incomplete and depends on the specific circumstances and objectives of the poultry farmer.

Types of self-made feeders for chickens

One of the options for the feeder

All feeders are classified according to the following criteria:

Depending on the feed method:

  • bunker;
  • grooved.

Depending on the material from which they are made:

  • wooden;
  • metallic solid;
  • plastic;
  • from metal mesh or rods:
  • combined.

From a plastic bottle

This model feeder is considered the easiest to manufacture. It's easier to have a bowl filled with food in the henhouse.

To produce it, you will need two plastic bottles directly; 2 and 5 liters, any flat hard material, for example, plywood.

The manufacturing technique is as follows:

Feeder from a plastic bottle

In the liter bottles, cut the bottom (through it feed is poured) and closer to the neck along the perimeter we make holes in order to pour grain through it.

With 2-liter bottles cut also the bottom, but the sides are left at an altitude of 10 cm (they are covered with bottles in which the food is located, against rain, other moisture and foreign bodies). 5-liter bottles are cut in such a way that the distance from the cut line to the bottom is no more than 15 cm.

At the center of the cut containers, make a hole along the diameter of the neck, l. bottles. In the sheet of plywood 50x30, we also make holes for the diameter, l. bottles. It remains for us to lower the bottle in a container of a larger diameter so that the neck passes through 2 holes and a piece of plywood emerges from below.

Then, from below, tighten the cap. In, l. The feeder is ready.

From a 5-liter plastic bottle

The feeder is made in different ways. The simplest is to cut out around the perimeter of the bottom of a hole of a small diameter sufficient for the rash grain, a different type of dry food, you can fill the bottle with a grain through a watering can inserted into the neck. From below we substitute any vessel.

From a 5-liter bottle

In the process of eating, the grain will be poured through the holesin the substituted vessel. You can make it in another way: in the same container, cut out around the perimeter small squares of such size that the chicken could freely poke its head inside and glue the grain. With this option, you do not even need a dish as a pallet.

But if you need to tighten the structure, make it more massive, to the bottom of the bottle screw a piece of plywood. This prevents the bottle from tipping over, if the supply of food is running out.

How to make a bunker for birds

The above-described methods for the production of feeders from plastic containers are also a kind of bunker feeders, but without a feed adjusting mechanism.

An improved version of the bunker is done in this way:

The plywood is cut into several pieces:

  • front of the hopper -40x50 cm;
  • rear part -40x40 cm;
  • 2 side wallsconical shape for connecting the front and rear walls;
  • upwardcapslightly larger than the top of the hopper.
Bunker version

At the bottom of the bunker, a slit is left to allow the food to spill into the tray to be eaten by the birds. As feed is eaten by chickens, the feed level in the bunker drops. It's easy to put it on.

To do this, open the lid and add the required amount. It will be improved by making the grain feed adjustment mechanism below. The principle of its work is to reduce the size of the slot (slit) or its increase, depending on the structure of the feed. This type of feeder is attached both indoors and outside.

If it is outside, then the slot (slit) of the underside of the hopper must feed the grain through the wall into the chute that is inside the room.

Carrier and drinking bowl from the sewer pipe

It can be made of plastic PVC sewer pipe. It is better, if you take the average diameter - 15 centimeters. In addition, for the arrangement will need two plugs and a tee. We choose the length that is necessary. Two pieces of 20 and 10 centimeters are cut from the tube.

Then connect the longest and the 20-centimeter sections of the pipe with the tee, and install them at the ends of the plug. To the branch of the tee, connect a 10-centimeter piece of pipe - this will be the feed tray.

Fodder (or water in the case of an auto-drunk) falls into this structure andfix it on the wall of the chicken coop with a long side to the top.

.
From the sewer pipe

Some offer the following version of the self-made structure from the materials at hand: In the lower part of the pipe with Both sides drill holes, expanding them to a diameter of 70 millimeters, so that the birds have free access to aft. On one side of the pipe a cap is worn, and the second segment is attached with a knee at a right angle. The food is poured into it and the second plug is put. You can also make an automatic drinking bowl.

In our opinion, such a feeder has a very big drawback: feed can not itself as it is eaten bird to move along the pipe, but will gather near the first hole, since there is no bias. The ideal angle of inclination in this case is difficult to make, since the coefficient of friction for each feed is different.

Variant from a tree

One version of the production of the trough made of wood was painted above (bunker feeder). You can make another version.To do this, you need boards or slats of wood.

The length is arbitrary. Let it be, meter. For the side walls we prepare 2 blanks with a size of 150cm x 10cm, and 2 blanks with a size of 20cm x 15cm. All this is done together as shown in the figure. To give strength to the structure and to prevent the bird from entering the feeder from above, a wide rack is nailed.

Of wood

Instead of reiki you can take any stalk from the inventory, for example, shovels. Attach on both sides in such a way that it rotates easily around its axis. This is to ensure that the chickens are difficult to sit on the trough and keep the balance.

It should be taken into account: a wood trough is advisable to use in indoor facilities to avoid wetting and spoilage of the material. It is not suitable for wet fodder, since it makes it difficult for the poultry man to clean it.

From metal mesh or rods

This version of the feeder is useful for greenery, as otherwise the chickens' grass will be pulled around the house. The feeder is in the same place. To design it, you just need to bend a welded metal mesh of small diameter into the ring and attach the ends to each other.

There is no bottom for this feeder.But for strength it is nailed to a wooden, plywood or any other plane, corresponding to the diameter of the ring. Top cover something. This design allows you to easily throw out all the faded contents and put a fresh green mass. Naturally, it is not suitable for loose feeds, since it has a large honeycomb structure.

Home feeders for chickens own hands

Chickens in the first days of life need to eat especially well. If their number is small, the problem with the feed containers is simple enough. To do this, install one feeder. But if their livestock is more than a hundred, then very soon they will grow up and to provide normal access to feed, it is necessary to install several feeders or one large.

If you do not use them at all, but simply pour the food on the floor or in some enclosed area, then a lot of food tramples and spoils, the economic effect of growing the bird falls.

Bunker version of improvised materials

The most simple feeder for chickens can be made from a conventional plastic bottle. The essence of the design is to cut in it a few windows in a row, so that the chicken can stick its head and glue the food. Side of the cut out windows at an angle of 90 degrees cut one or two holes smaller under the size of the neck of the bottle.

The cut off bottle, as shown in the picture, is inserted into the hole. It turned out a kind of watering can, through which feed is buried.

Feeding trough for chickens

It is possible to offer a different version of the bunker for the chickens.

To do this, from any light hard material (for example, the thinnest extruded polystyrene) we cut out a circle in which we make holes along the contour, so that the chickens can feed the food.

In the middle, cut through the hole in the diameter of the bottle or jar, in which it falls asleep. Under the bottom we substitute any vessel (it is possible a plastic bowl). With an inverted can, the grain pours out into the bowl as it consumes. The diameter of the circle should be slightly larger than the diameter of the bowl.

If we take a glass jar as a bunker, then this design variant has one significant drawback - to fill it, you need to turn the jar again and fill it with compound feed. Then put on a foamy circle, a bowl, and then turn it all over and put it on the floor.

This design is suitable only for growing chickens, because grown-up young or an adult bird is overturned by the jar, and it can break.

Automatic feed for chickens

Strictly speaking, the autocook is made in such a way that from the filled hopper (it does not matter what it will be and what it is made of: from plastic bottles, glass, wooden, etc.) as the grain consumed by the bird, it spilled out into the container under the bunker (bowl, cell other).

Almost all of the above types of feeders are built on a bunker basis. This is the auto-feeder. That is, after pouring grain into the bunker once, for example, in the morning, the owner does not worry that it is necessary to feed the bird in 3, 6 or 24 hours. When it is emptied, the hopper is again filled up with food.

Automatic feed supply

For his equipment you need only a bowl or disposable plastic dishes, depending on the size of the bunker (it can be a 20-liter bucket, or maybe a bucket from under ice cream).

In the bottom of the perimeter, we cut through small holes so that the food can be poured into the bowl while eating it. On top of such a structure is covered with a lid.

The bowl needs to be chosen in such a way that its diameter is greater than the diameter of the bottom of the bucket, but not much, otherwise the bird will climb into the bowl and trample its contents.

It can be made more mobile by attaching a handle to the design.

As you can see, the technician of making feeders is very much.We stop the choice, proceeding from a concrete situation: quantity of heads of a bird, its age, conditions of the maintenance, presence of those or others materials in the household, for what purposes it is grown (for example, if it is broilers, then the bunker feeder (it is also - automatic feeder) is simply irreplaceable, as broilers need to eat constantly, and from time to time during the day, pour food on the bird enough troublesome).

In addition, the material of the feeder itself depends on the composition of the feed. For example, for wet mash, a metal or plastic feeder of an open type is best suited. It is easier to wash. For loose feeds, the ideal option is bunker feeders. They ensure the dryness of the food inside it and its purity.
