Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Cherry of this variety has certain advantages, which significantly distinguish it from other varieties.

  • High yield- without feeding and tiring care it is possible to get a good harvest.
  • Winter resistance- a plant without complications withstands severe cold up to 35-47 ° C with a minus sign. Even if frosts occur during flowering, yields remain satisfactory, because the buds of the tree are also resistant to low temperatures.
  • Drought resistance- Cherry feels well and develops properly, even with a small amount of precipitation.

The disadvantages of the variety are:

  • uneven ripening of berries;
  • at times Generous can be affected by various diseases.

Planting and care

The best time for planting Cherry Cherry is spring. This grade is unpretentious to the composition of the soil, but it is recommended to use places on the elevations that are not flooded, dry, with light sandy loamy soil.

In addition, sunshine should be in the chosen place. For the cherry you need to select sufficiently protected from the northern winds areas.

The soil under the planting is prepared from autumn. It is not very deep dig, lime fertilizers are introduced and only one month later organic fertilizers are added.

Deepening under the landing is also prepared in the autumn. Dig it out with a depth of 50 cm and a diameter of approximately 90 cm.

In this recess place the prepared soil: the top layer of the earth is mixed with compost and 30 grams of superphosphate, 20 grams of potassium chloride and 1 kg of wood ash are added.

On the pit made in the pit, put a seedling and dig it well.

The root neck should remain above the ground. Near the pit, make a hole for watering.

When the planting is completed, 3-4 buckets of water are poured into the erected well and peat or compost is added.

When the cherry is planted, during the first 2 years the care for it consists only in watering, loosening the soil and destroying the weeds. In the autumn period, the soil near the seedling is gently, without touching the roots, digging to a depth of about 10 cm.

For 3 years, in the early spring, after the snow has melted, first feed for the roots is introduced. Apply nitrogen fertilizers, for example, urea. In the autumn, superphosphate and potassium sulfate are added.

When the plant begins to bear fruit, the amount of fertilizer is increased. It is recommended to make the first part of nitrogen fertilizers in the spring time, and the second part - at the end of the flowering period.

Seedling water more often as soon as the soil dries. For one irrigation procedure poured about 3-4 buckets of water per 1 square. m.

Cherries, which bear fruit, receive less water: irrigation is carried out only 3 times a year.

  1. First, the plant is watered immediately after the flowering period;
  2. Next time - in the ripening season.
  3. The third time - before the winter cold, in October.

In severe drought, bush cherry requires more water. For one irrigation procedure, at least 5-6 buckets of water per 1 sq. M. m.

In addition to fertilizing, watering and loosening, the generous variety is necessarily pruned every year.

An adult cherry should have 10-15 main branches. After 4-5 years, the crown of the plant should be absolutely formed. The subsequent pruning is carried out only to maintain the same kind.

When the kidneys begin to swell, it is possible to see from which branches you need to get rid of, and which should not. The dried, old and diseased branches are cut and greased sections of slices with a thick garden sauce.

One-year-old shoots are not necessary to cut. Pruning is recommended before opening the leaves.

Also cut off and excess root shoots, which significantly weakens the cherry. When pruning, you must not allow excessive thickening, and in time to get rid of the branches that grow inside the plant. This procedure will not only increase the number of crops, but also significantly reduce the likelihood of diseases.

Harvesting and storage of crops

The first berries are harvested approximately for the third year from the moment of disembarkation. The yield indicators are marked as high and regular. During the summer, 10-18 kg of fruits are collected in one cherry, but after a few years these figures do not decrease. Generous is recognized as late-ripening variety. The cherry blossoms begin in late spring, and the berries ripen in late August - early September.

Taking into account the fact that cherries ripen unevenly, harvesting is necessary in several stages.Although generous and self-fertile variety, to increase its yield, gardeners with experience are advised to plant it next to trees of pollinating varieties, for example, Subbotinskaya, Polevka or Maksimovskaya.

Since the fruit has a high density, they can easily transfer transportation. The period of storage in broken form is a maximum of 1 week.

Diseases and pests

Cherry Generous, although not always, but susceptible to diseases: moniliasis and coccomicosis. This variety is resistant to pests, but at times it suffers from a mucous sawfly or cherry aphid. This happens during prolonged rains.

Moniliosis is a fungal disease that affects cherry completely. The pathogen moniliosis conducts the winter period in the bark of branches and shoots, and it manifests itself during the flowering period. The first to become ill are the bark, shoots and leaves.

On their surface a thick gray moss is formed, which grows inside the cherry. Because of this, the moss bark of the plant cracked and the branches and leaves completely dried up. The ill berries soon begin to decay, wither and can be stored on the plant in a similar manner throughout the winter period. Fungal spores remain until the onset of spring.

To get rid of the disease you need to regularly remove diseased leaves, shoots, berries, and be sure to burn them. Before and after flowering, it is recommended to treat the bush with an aqueous solution of copper chloride.

After harvesting a good result gives a spray of a one-percent solution of the Bordeaux mixture. To prevent this solution, you can treat the plant in early spring, before the appearance of leaves.

Cockcomicosis is also a fungal disease, but it affects, mainly, leaves and berries. It can be noticed at the initial stage, by the appearance of small red spots on the top of the leaves.

These specks grow quite rapidly and cover the entire surface of the leaves, and then spread to the fruit. All the diseased leaves fall already in July, and berries wither. If the disease is not treated, then a year later the plant will die.

Winter cold fungus kokomikoza spends in the fallen leaves. In this regard, it is very important to cut and dry the dry leaves in time. To combat this disease, the treatment of the bush and soil under it with a one-percent Bordeaux fluid is perfect two times or once, after the flowering - with a solution of copper chloride.

The mucous cherry sawfly on the cherry tree appears rarely, but it does a significant harm. The larvae of such an insect feed on plant leaves. They lay eggs at the bottom of the leaves, and after 10-14 days of them larvae appear.

Protect against them, the cherry is possible by the method of permanent deep loosening of the soil near the bush and processing it with insecticides. Aphids lay eggs for winter time on plant shoots, next to the kidneys.

In the spring, the hatched larvae begin to feed on the juice of newly formed leaves, and quickly enough to destroy the cherry.

To get rid of aphids, the plant is sprayed with special means. A remarkable effect gives a solution of wood ash: 300 gr per 3 liters of boiled water. In such a solution poured a bit of crushed tar soap, make a volume of liquid 10 liters and add 2 tbsp. l. vinegar.

This solution processes the cherry before and after flowering.

Reviews of gardeners

Dmitriy:I have several bushes of this sort growing in my dacha. I am very glad. It's easy to take care of him, I can do it. Cherries are great for compotes, which turn out to be fragrant and with a wonderful taste.

Elena:I'm engaged in the cultivation of a generous variety since 2010. Currently, in the garden planted four bushes of this variety and I plan to plant a couple of seedlings. The berries are recycled: I make juice and jams.

Maria:Cherry Shchedrya grows in our country plot. Her fruit is delicious, but due to the fact that the berries are not ripening evenly, they have to be collected in several approaches. And this takes a lot of time, which is already not enough.

Generous - this is a fairly undemanding variety of cherries, with a huge number of advantages. And despite some shortcomings, for 55 years, this cherry receives positive reviews of gardeners and claims the most popular variety in the gardens of our country.
