Profession requires medical and chefs to wear immaculately clean clothes. Requirements for accuracy and proper appearance relate to headgear as well. In order for it to always be in perfect condition, it is necessary not only to wash, but also to starch the cap.
Another reason for starching clothes is the need to give the headgear a certain shape. This can be done only with the help of dressing. To do this, use starch or other suitable means. Thanks to this, the desired form of clothing can be given even at home.
Preparation of clothes for the procedure
Before starching the medical cap and uniform, clothes must be washed, rinsed, cleaned from stains. If bleach cannot cope with contaminants, they can be removed using ordinary household products.
Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide removes even the most resistant formation. To do this, just put some liquid on the stain and leave the clothes in the sun. When the dirt disappears, simply treat the cleaned area with water.
Soda and vinegar
Another effective method that copes with even the most resistant dirt. To do this:
- pour soda on the stain;
- pour 9% vinegar on top;
- leave overnight;
- in the morning to wash with clean water.
How to dress up a cap, apron, dressing gown
Before starching a dressing gown, a cook cap, other uniforms, determine the required rigidity of the products. The further appearance of the thing depends on it. Home starching is of three kinds.
Soft
Starch paste is prepared at the rate of 1 teaspoon of dry matter per liter of water. This method is rarely used by doctors and cooks. With it, you can starch a medical gown, but for the cap you need a thicker solution.
Medium
This type of starch is used to impart purity and shape to white coats, aprons, medical hats, if they are not required to be particularly hard. To prepare a finishing solution, a tablespoon of potato, wheat or corn starch is taken per liter of water.
Hard
To grind cook caps, which are characterized by an elongated shape, a strong solution is required. It is prepared at the rate of 2 tablespoons of dry starch per liter of water. In the same way most often dressing and medical clothes. The procedure itself is so simple that it can even be done at home:
- Correctly calculate the right amount of starch.
- Pour it into enamel or glassware.
- Fill with a small amount of water, stir( the consistency of the solution should resemble sour cream).
- Boil the rest of the water.
- Stirring in starch solution thoroughly, gradually pour boiling water into it.
- If lumps form in the resulting paste, strain the composition through a sieve or mesh.
- Immerse your clothes in the solution and let it soak well.
- Remove and gently squeeze, sweeping palms from top to bottom.
- No need to squeeze, otherwise the fabric will remain strong folds, creases.
Then it remains only to properly dry the clothes. This instruction is suitable for potato starch. If corn raw materials are used, the paste must be boiled over low heat so that the solution becomes clear.
Another tip: the starch should be white. If for some reason it looks gray, it should be washed, drained, dried. Then the powder can be used according to the instructions.
Starch-free dressing
There are many other ways to give the fabric the desired shape. First of all, it is the shop structures intended for dressing of different types of fabric. You can also use simple tools, such as glue and gelatin. The only condition - do not use sugar. The smell of sweet syrup attracts insects. And this is absolutely not necessary neither in a restaurant, nor, especially, in a medical institution.
Industrial compounds
Today special aerosols and powders for dressing are produced. Some of them include a polyvinyl acetate emulsion. These tools do an excellent job with starching clothes. They can be used for hand or machine washing. Industrial tools do not require additional efforts for the preparation of compositions, and this is their plus. In essence, the dressing procedure is simple. Need to add powder during washing. Or pour liquid into the air conditioner compartment. If spray is used, clothes should be sprayed after drying.
PVA Glue
It is great for dressing small items like chef hats and medical hats. But only light things can be processed by PVA, because the rest will have divorces. For hard finishing, perform the following steps:
- Dissolve the glue with water one by one( if the PVA is liquid, you can take less water).
- The liquid may be warm or cold( we do not use boiling water).
- In the resulting solution we put the cap and give it to soak.
- Remove the item, gently squeeze it out with your fingers from the bottom up( you do not need to unscrew it) and start drying.
Sealing with PVA has certain advantages. In particular, the adhesive solution evens the texture of the fabric, which makes it smoother and more glossy. Bathrobes, aprons and hubcaps stay clean longer and are easier to wash.
Gelatin
Gelatin is perfect for finishing synthetic fabrics. To do this, make a solution at the rate of 3 tablespoons of gelatin per liter of water. Proceed as follows:
- dissolve gelatin in 100 ml of water;
- warm the liquid in a water bath;
- gradually add the rest of the water to it;
- immerse the cap, bathrobe, apron in the solution;Let
- soak;
- gently squeeze, do not unscrew;
- proceed to drying.
Silicate glue
Instead of PVA, you can use silicate glue. The solution is prepared according to the same scheme. For a hard dressing per liter of water, a tablespoon of glue is taken.
How to dry and whether it is necessary to iron
If everything is clear with the dressing gown and apron, then the cap requires a special approach due to its shape. To give the headdress an appropriate shape, you need to wear it on a suitable-sized jar.
Using a three-liter bottle, it is easy to dry the medical cap. But a cook has a more elongated cap, and it can be difficult to find a jar of the required size. In this case, you can make the form yourself. To do this, take a cardboard, roll it around a three-liter bottle, secure with paper clips or adhesive tape. Carefully flatten the cap on the form and do not remove until completely dry.
When using a hard dressing headpiece can not be subjected to heat treatment. If the middle method was used, the effect of an iron with a steam mode or a hair dryer is allowed. This will strengthen the fixation and give things a neat look.
Some cook caps are sewn so that the upper part is softer and more curly. These hats need starch in two solutions. First, the whole thing is immersed in the average composition. After spinning, the part where there are no waves is lowered into a hard solution.
