Autumn cares about strawberries: how to feed the sweet berry?

Strawberries on my site have been growing for a long time, we still have it from our previous owners. The berries have always been sweet and large, but this year the harvest was not as good as usual. Tell me, what kind of dressing can be given to strawberries in the fall to restore fruiting?

Strawberries in the suburban areas - the phenomenon is quite frequent. Growing it is not so difficult, but some efforts will still have to be made. In particular, this applies to fertilizer, because independently strawberries can develop and actively bear fruit for no more than two years. By the third year of life, the bushes choose almost all the nutrients from the soil and they begin to “fast”.As a result, the yield of strawberries in quantitative terms is becoming poorer every year, and the berries themselves are noticeably shallow. To avoid this, it is necessary to feed strawberries annually not only in spring, but also in autumn.

Autumn dressing of strawberries will also help her recover from fruiting, which will increase the chances of a successful wintering.

For autumn time, you can apply strawberry fertilizer:

• organic matter;
• minerals in the form of phosphorus and potassium;
• complex preparations.

When to apply fertilizer?

The time of feeding depends on what kind of strawberry belongs to and when it finishes fruit:

• ordinary garden strawberries, which give the last berries at the end of summer, are fertilized in September;
• remontant varieties are fed a month later( or even two).

Organic Top-dressing

Like most garden and horticultural crops, strawberries respond well to natural organic fertilizers. You can choose from( or in parallel) one of several options:

1. Wood ash .Spread between beds on the basis of each square meter for 150 g of ash.
2. Fresh-cut green mass( weeds, green manure) .Just lay out in the aisle and lightly sprinkle with soil or sand.
3. Insist mullein. In a bucket of water, dilute 1 l of mullein, hold for a couple of days. Before watering the infusion of strawberries, it is recommended to add ashes( 0.5 tbsp.).

All fertilizers in liquid form, regardless of whether they are organic or complex fertilizers, must be made no later than September, so that wet roots do not freeze and die during the first frost.

Why strawberries phosphorus and potassium in the fall?

Mineral substances, such as potassium and phosphorus, make it possible to increase the number of flower buds made by strawberries, on which the future harvest depends. The easiest option is to scatter the preparations in a dry form between the beds and around the bushes.

You can also prepare a solution and pour them planting, dissolved in a bucket of water:

• 2 tbsp.lnitrophos;
• 20 g of potassium salt.

The working solution needs to shed only inter-rows, preventing liquid from entering the bushes themselves.

In the garden centers there is a wide choice of preparations intended especially for strawberries( or universal) and containing all the necessary complex of nutrients. Among them it is worth noting:

• Kemira autumn;
• Hera autumn;
• Florovit;
• "Autumn" from the trademark Buyskie fertilizers.
