For raspberries need to constantly and carefully take care. During the season, it is fed, watered and treated for pests and diseases.

Raspberry Pests

The most common pests are the raspberry-strawberry weevil, the raspberry stem fly, the raspberry beetle and the raspberry escape gallitsa. Every gardener encountered these malicious insects.

The raspberry-strawberry weevil

This little bug damages the raspberries in the spring, after the first leaves are blooming. He loves to feast on young leaves, gnawing at them big holes. In the flowering period, in June 10-20, he lays eggs on the buds, from which the voracious larvae hatch and eat almost half of the raspberry harvest, preventing it from ripening.

To fight against the weevil in very early spring, before the buds have blossomed, the raspberry shoots must be processed with Carbofos: 50 g per bucket of water. For those gardeners who do not want to use “chemistry” in their area, we offer the following recipe: 10 g of birch tar and 30 g of liquid soap per 10 liters of water. Stir all ingredients well until slurry forms and sprinkle raspberries. Pests do not like the smell of tar and leave your raspberry pancakes.

A raspberry stem fly

A small gray fly lays eggs on the ground next to a young shoot, then the hatched larva bites into the shoot and sucks the juice out of it. The escape dries up. If on the stalk, at the level of 5-10 cm from the ground, you have found a dark point with a small wound, then having broken it, you will see a small worm 5-6 mm long - this is the larva of a raspberry fly. In this case, nothing remains, how to cut the stem under the root and burn.

To combat the larvae, it is necessary to loosen the ground around the raspberry bush, pouring the mixture of ash with mustard and pepper( per 1 m2 of area is a half-liter jar of ash, adding a tablespoon of black, red pepper and mustard).

The raspberry beetle

The raspberry beetle damages the raspberries when the berry starts to fill and redden. He lays eggs in a green berry. The larvae suck the juice already from ripe berries, and the raspberry dries. The fight against such a pest is to repel it with the previously described tar solution, it is impossible to water the bushes with various chemicals during the ripening of raspberries.

Raspberry spruce gallitsa

Insect damages raspberries from autumn. Its larva climbs into the stalk and winters there, a “bump” thickening forms on the stem. Damaged stems must be cut to the root and burned, because from such bushes you will not get a good harvest, the berries will be small and not tasty, and the probability of infecting and losing the entire raspberry plantation is very high.
