- in the afternoon, it is cracking with displeasure, not wanting to retreat, and on the ground there is still white snow cover, but the first spring sun defiantly peeks out of the window and invites summer residents who have rested during the winter. Indeed, it’s enough to sit in a warm and cozy chair, after all this spring is not far off, and in March there is plenty of trouble at the summer gardeners in the garden. So where do we start?
Snow Garden Troubles And we will start with snow, because in most regions its cover is still quite high in early spring. You should not wait for the snow to melt by itself, especially if the amount of precipitation has exceeded the norm, otherwise the snow that is loose and heavier under the influence of positive temperatures may cause trouble. If the spring in your region is early and warm, and in early March on the ground instead of snow there is the first young grass, just skip this point and go on to the next chapter. Not everyone is so lucky to live in the southern climate.
What do we do with snow? Armed with a long stick and a shovel( why the latter, you will learn further), we go to the garden and begin to prank:
- Using snow, we knock snow hats off the trees, especially from the young ones - under its weight the flexible and frozen branches often break.
- Fallen snow is transferred with a shovel( and that's useful) on beds with strawberries, in raspberries, and also laid out in a tree trunk under trees. It will stop the thawing of the root system, which will help protect the roots and twigs, in which sap flow can start early, from return frost.
- We also pour snow on the beds with cuttings and grafts dug in from the autumn. We pour sawdust on top of the snow in order to slow the melting of the snow cover.
- We look into the lowland side of the garden, where there is drainage, and clear the building, at the same time removing snow from this area until it melts and does not add excess moisture.
- But if there is a site with a strong inclination, there, on the contrary, we demolish all the remaining snow and make a similarity of the shaft across the horizontal area. Such a snow barrier will prevent the rapid runoff of moisture and help the earth to have time to soak in it.

cuttings If you don’t have enough time to prepare cuttings in the autumn turmoil, you can do this in March. Right there, in the garden, we “bury” them under a snow blanket and fall asleep with sawdust.

Protecting trees from spring burns
The most important event among the gardeners in March is the spring whitewashing of trees. Most of us are waiting for warmer days and carry it to the end of April, so that the garden shines with snow-white trunks before the Easter holidays. However, this should not be done, since by that time the whitewashing will be purely aesthetic in nature, so for beauty. It is in the first days of March, before the temperature swings began( during the day - plus, at night - minus), it is necessary to protect the trees from the sun's rays and future burns and freezers. Do not forget to look at a bed for coniferous crops like Tui and Juniper - they are among the first to suffer from the sun. It is not necessary to whiten them, but to cover them for a time with non-woven material will not hurt.
Getting Down To Spring Cut
Toward the middle of March, when the daily temperature will be above zero, take a sharp pruner and a large knife and go to inspect our garden possessions, namely: - we clean up to live fabric formed on the trunks during the winter frost;
- prune frozen and broken branches in the trees, as well as those that grow inside the crown or intersect with each other;
- cut old shoots on gooseberries and currants;
- if in the fall raspberries were not pruned - we manage in raspberry as well, removing shoots that otplodonosili, and shortening the young branches;
- look to the ornamental shrubs to conduct sanitary pruning.
We don’t forget to cover all the wounds in the trees and the resulting stumps from the cut branches with a garden pitch. Wounds are additionally processed before putty with copper sulfate.
Preparing for the attack of pests and diseases
When the winter finally disappears, and the spring sun warms the air to at least 5 degrees Celsius, you can start the preventive spraying - another important event among the gardeners in the garden in March. Trees are treated with insecticides and means for the prevention of diseases, and shrubs and berry beds( strawberries) - just hot water. - we lay out the etched grain for mice in the garden( but not to be eaten by birds);
