video Green parsley is hard to imagine a small kitchen garden How to grow parsley?.The parsley, which had become a valuable agricultural crop in ancient times, gradually spread from the shores of the Mediterranean to almost all continents.

In Russia, both leaf and root parsley are planted, and the greens are grown as varieties with the usual form of the leaf, and with curly.

It is possible to distinguish root and leaf cultures by a dense, cone-shaped, even root crop, as well as leaves rich in vitamins, sugars, aromatic substances and trace elements. In parsley leaves, the roots are not as an example more thin and branched. Greens give both types of plants.

Therefore, the cultivation of parsley in the open field is carried out with two objectives:

  • for the production of root crops and greens, for which seed crops are planted;
  • for forcing fresh foliage obtained by planting the roots of last year.

. Ways of planting and caring for parsley in the open field.

. Particularly, parsley is that in the first season all the forces of the plant go to the growth of both foliage and root. If the root crop is planted in the second year or left to winter, a rosette of leaves will appear in April, and the parsley will bloom in the summer. For the cultivation of parsley in the open field use as far as methods, allowing to get the most early and abundant crop of greens.

If spring parsley was planted in the open ground with seeds, then grown plants can be left in the winter. To parsley had time to prepare for the end of the growing season, it is better to cut the leaves from it no later than September, and with the advent of cold weather, plants spud and cover with a layer of mulch from foliage, straw or pine needles.

With the onset of spring and the melting of snow, the mulch is removed and a film cover is made above the beds. How long to wait for the leaves to appear, and how long does the parsley grow in this case? Fresh parsley leaves will arrive on the table in April, and the leaves can be cut until the peduncle rises above the rosette.

If the parsley is not left for the winter in the soil, then the roots stored in the basement in early spring:

  • are shortened to 12–15 cm;
  • cleaned from dried and rotted leaves and petioles;
  • is treated with a stimulant for better root formation;
  • are planted under the film, leaving an interval of 8–10 cm between plants.

So parsley will give three early harvests of greens.

The main method is to plant parsley seeds in open ground. At the same time, it is important to take into account that the culture is not distinguished by rapid germination. Therefore, parsley is often sown with germinated seeds from early spring until July. In this case, the crop manages to yield one crop and can successfully overwinter.

Root varieties sown no later than mid-May, so that the parsley has time to form a full-fledged root crop.

Dry seeds fall into the soil before winter. In this case, they are buried in the ground from the second half of October to the very frost, and when the snow cover is established, they are additionally covered with snow. In the spring, such crops start developing at 4 ° C, they can be grown under film or in open ground, because parsley grown in open ground is not terrible even to frosts down to –9 ° C.

Applicable to the cultivation of leaf parsley and rassadny method. Germinated seeds first grow in peat cups or tablets, and in April, at the age of 30–40 days, they are transplanted into open ground. As a result of using this technique, you can get early greens and spend up to six fees for the summer season.

Planting parsley seeds in open ground

Due to the cold resistance of parsley seeds, this crop is sown starting in early spring. Can I plant parsley in July, will the plant have time to give greens? Up to the end of July or the first decade of August, leafy varieties can be sown. If parsley is intended to produce root crops, then it is unlikely to wait for good results from the plants sown after mid-May.

The July crops of green varieties can give foliage in the second half of summer, then leave before winter and give a harvest next year.

Without preliminary preparation, parsley seeds hatch very slowly. How much does parsley make? This usually happens not earlier than in 2–3 weeks. Seed material collected not earlier than a year ago has greater growth energy and germination, but even in this case germination can be accelerated:

  • Before spring or summer sowing in open ground, seed material is soaked in water with a temperature of 18–22 ° C.
  • The water in the seed tank is changed every 3–4 hours.
  • After 2–3 days, leave for another 18 hours in a solution of growth stimulant or microelements. It is better if oxygen is flowing through the liquid at this time, which will accelerate the process of spitting up the semen.
  • Shoots from sticking seeds appear already within a week.

About 1 gram of prepared seeds is required per square meter of the ridge when planting parsley in open ground with seeds. If the crop is sown in summer, then before embedding into the soil the ridge is watered abundantly, and the number of seeds per square meter is increased by one third.

Growing parsley in the open field provides for the preservation of a small interval between individual plants, from 4 to 12 cm, depending on the type and variety:

  • Root parsley is sown with an interval of 1-4 cm, while the seeds fall into the groove individually.
  • Parsley of common varieties is sown at a distance of 10–12 cm, and curly at an interval of 8–10 cm. This crop is sown with 3 or 4 seeds per nest with subsequent thinning.

The depth of parsley seed placement during spring or summer sowing is 6–10 mm; in the autumn, the grooves are made twice as deep.

After planting parsley in open ground with seeds and powdering furrows, the soil is compacted slightly, watering is done, which are mulched on top or covered with foil.

Care for parsley when grown in open ground.

When choosing a site for planting and caring for parsley in an open field, it is better to give preference to the beds where zucchini, pumpkins, cucumbers or tomatoes used to grow. Re-sowing after parsley or other umbellas are carried out after three to four years. For parsley, especially root varieties, a loose, cultivated soil rich in organic matter is needed.

Excessive density of the soil leads to deformities of root crops, the seeds worse and more slowly sprout.

In the autumn, when preparing a plot for parsley, when digging per square meter, from 3 to 5 kg of rotted manure or humus is introduced. After snow melting, the beds are fertilized in a complex. In this case there are 4 kg of compost, 15 grams of superphosphate, 10 grams of potassium chloride and 20 grams of saltpeter per square meter.

While seedlings do not seem above the ground, care and cultivation of parsley consists in careful watering and aeration, which are under the film of crops. Emerging weeds are removed, and after germination, not only weeding, but also loosening the soil, feeding and thinning of the seedlings, which is carried out at the stage of 2-3 split leaves, are added to the measures for caring for the parsley planted in the open ground.

Before the formation of a full-fledged leaf rosette, parsley is fed twice with the extract of mullein or compost.8–10 liters of water take 1 kg of organic matter, about 15 grams of superphosphate and the same amount of potassium sulfate. In August, plants, especially those grown for root vegetables, should no longer receive nitrogenous fertilizers so that this element does not accumulate in the roots and the aerial parts of the plant.

Parsley, planted in open ground with seeds, responds well to foliar nutrition with microelements, which also arrange twice during the growing season.

Parsley tolerates hot days well, but the greens devoid of moisture become noticeably rougher and tougher, but accumulate aromatic substances and essential oils better:

  • If parsley is intended for fresh use, the plant needs watering that provides 60–70% of soil moisture.
  • To get a more fragrant raw material for drying, for a couple of weeks before harvesting, parsley is restricted in watering.

You can pick up cold-resistant parsley until late autumn, until frosts begin.

At the same time, root crops are taken for storage. Plants remaining to winter in the ground, gently spud and mulch.
